It's fair to say that car headlights (and shop lights, and traffic lights, and everything else that might distract drivers from looking at the road) have got brighter.

But that's not an excuse for cyclists to dazzle oncoming motorists. Which is why my two ChineseShines always point very carefully downwards.

If you want to be seen against the backdrop of BMW/Audi/Range Rover Xenons, you need brighter lights than you used to. If you want to be able to see anything after said Xenons have gone the other way, likewise.

The rubber band mount means that when I switch to the lower setting I can aim the light down at the same time. In one slick move my 1,800 Lumens of power is easily handled. wink

as long as the aim isn't this angle you should be ok

I ordered a £17 one off eBay and after it hadn't shown up in 30 days they refunded me and I bought a 1200 lumen C&B Seen

Then the £17 jobby turned up!

The C&B seen is definitely worth the extra 20 quid IMO
This is what I have gone for. I have to cycle country lanes and you need something bright to stop people forgetting to turn off their main beam. I was tempted by the chinese light but I dont want to blind other road users or fanny about getting new lenses.

Fitted my 17 quid Chinese knock offs lat night. Apart from the temporary arc eye - Absolutely superb. Winter cycling offroad just became a reality.

They are already amongst us. Just a day at my place of work proves that hehe ... Seriously just one 17 quid light is enough. <cockney accent> Blindin'mate

1200 lumens is seemingly not enough for road use. First day of using my light and I got hit by a car.

I'm getting on well with my Chinese MagicShine (the 1200 I think it is).

Just ordered the rear red with splitter (to add to my existing catseye rear - one flashing one static I intend), ordered the swivel mount (as my handlebars don't allow it to mount quite properly) and also ordered the slightly wider beam lens.

Have yout got a link for the rear? I'm really not sure which one to order.

I have been using the R4 this year and think it is great (battery life the only slight bugbear!), you should be very happy tonight smile
