I have one of these permanently plugged in the lighter socket in my 911: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00WTS4LFQ/ref...
It has been in there for the last 3 years and hasn't cut out in that time although earlier ones I bought a few years back as part of my "rental car go-bag") did have a bad habit of pretty shoddy connections.
It's an epic fail on the "not made from black plastic," criteria but is a pretty good fit for my lighter socket (slightly dished) and pretty unobtrusive in an old German car.

This one fits flush (almost) and is metal: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charger-Adaptor-Charging-...
Not sure of the dimensions but a quick Google for panel mount usb socket found these;

That was about the best of a bad bunch for me, it matched in with size and shape of the OEM switch blank that should be in its place (or rear fog on some cars). It was more expensive than most options and came from Germany. It was only around £18 though.

Note the rectangular backing plate isnt needed and there's a screwed retaining ring. No awful blue black light etc, just plain and simple.
