For me, the FK8 was ugly but there was absolutely no mistaking it was a Type R. No TypeR-Line nonsense, just an in your face "red hot" hatch.

So I think the issue is that it could have been just as radically bespoilered but rather less ugly. Tidied up and rather less like a teenager's bedroom.

This has gone too far the other way and now it's more Golf GTI smooth, to appeal to the conservative.

I like conservative but "obviously top of the line sporting" and I think the Fiesta Mk 6 and 7 had that nailed.

This looks very dull in white and lacks any visual punch in the face.

It's not helped by my pet hates - black wheels!

Distinctive alloys used to be the signature of sports hatches but black just robs them of any identity. They should offer silver or gunmetal at the very least.

Perhaps they could fit an extra large sunroof and forget having doors altogether rolleyes

Seriously, a hatch this size would look silly with 3.
Disregarding the facetious comment, I'm quite sure I'm not the only one that is saddened by the demise of the 3 door Type R / SiR / VTi Honda.
If it only had 3 doors they would sell even less rolleyes

What's the point of a 3dr? Less practical and let's be honest these aren't proper sports cars, they are a family car with a bit of fun thrown in so hardly a fun weekend blaster.

And surely no one buys a hatch for looks?
Agree with the 3dr comment but not the looks comment. Plenty have been put off buying because of the looks so why not conversely be attracted by them?

Far more appealing to me than the FK8 which looked ridiculous. I’d seriously like one but I’d have to ditch the black alloys.

I really think I’m going to have to reserve too much judgement until I see one in the flesh.

I was in the ‘too much / overstyled’ camp with the FK8, but based on the pictures this doesn’t do a lot for me either.

My first thought is it just looks so damn big. I don’t know if the dimensions are in the public domain but it must be a fair chunk longer than something like a Golf or A class. Some may like that but I’m not a great fan of large hatches.

Styling wise, I quite like the front but less so the back and side profile. Reminds me a fair bit of the Kia Stinger. Also, now the styling is more reserved, I find the rear wing looks a bit out of a place, a touch aftermarket.

I’m hoping it works better in the flesh and, as mentioned by other posters, may be quite colour sensitive. I have little doubt it’ll be a blast to drive however.

I like this - although given the size i do wonder if it's time to covert to a saloon?

As a serial Type R owner I am a little underwhelmed by it in pictures , maybe better in the metal. Not sure where the writer got the Michelin PS4 reference from, FK8 had Conti SP6 as standard - PS4S probably better though the conti is pretty good.
But the FK8 looks serious , gets loads of positive attention, really. It’s also superb - the best hot hatch there has ever been - hopefully FL5 is at least as good

Honda just can't win...
most people are loving this car tbh

I think it's super appealing!

lacks a bit in power but should be easy to tune, other than that I am just waiting on the price

How much do we think it’s going to be? I reckon around £45k.

Should keep the values of the FK8 strong as it’ll be £20k cheaper and the last of the ‘crazy’ looking Type R’s.

Really like the subtle design of this one compared to the previous generation. Would like to see it without the wing though.

I'll have mine in blue.
Looks like it's very colour sensitive then. That works so much better than the white.
For me, and this is not a criticism of those who like it, looks being totally subjective, this just looks like every other fast hatch now. The last two gens of CTR had made outlandish looks a USP. Perhaps this more subtle version will attract more buyers than the more divisive older models though?
Yes, all relative, and I very much prefer the FK8. The white one in the pics doesn't look special at all to my eyes, the blue one is a big improvement. Not a patch on the yellow Limited Edition FK8 though!

I'd be very surprised if it's over 40k, atleast the cheapest version.

If they had a 5 door and a 3 door option they might sell even more. hehe

I posted earlier when this was asked that the final FK8’s were just over 36 in GT spec, so assuming they do a similar GT version I’d say 39,995 - but I did note this was partly in hope to avoid the 40k luxury tax.

Sadly I think you could be right.

As someone else has said they think 45 could be too high - perhaps 39,995 non GT & 42,995 GT

Whatever it’s going to be more than the FK8 & most likely +10% more too.

Makes the 33,500 I was quoted for a FK8 GT in 2019 almost seem a bargain!

45K sounds very strong money - but in this market who knows!

Would make the i30N at 34K look a bargain.

Gets better the more I look at it. Love those rear arches.

I think I fall into the minority of FK8 owners that like the looks of both the FL5 and FK8. Two different design languages that I'm happy to appreciate.

That angle looks good I must admit!

Big fan of this. The Saloon bodystyle just works for me, reminds me of the FD (?) previous gen Type R that we didn’t get to in the UK.

Must say this is the first new car released in a while that is attainable and I want. Hope it’s below £40k as if so, call me interested!

Really nice. Looks bigger than my new sportline. It looks like they have used the 2023 Acura Integra body and carried over all the drivetrain, suspension and tyres from the 2021 sportline . Rumours power has increased by 10 ponies so 316 for US and 326 for UK/Euro. I would take a guess at £42.995 but with speculators markup as per GR Yaris maybe £49.995.
