Go for the deck shoe option.... confuses most doormen as whether its a smart shoe or not....

Not a fan? the OP said he was staying in and around Mayfair; you could head down towards the Kings Road/Fulham Road area, lots of good bars and pub with a couple of fun nightclubs. I would suggest stay away from the usual tourist hotspots (Leicester Square/Soho area).

Depending on your preference Clapham area is well rated and not too far out..

the thread is about London not Nottingham
Sorry, I hadn't realised that Boris had stamped out Gun and Knife crime in London this quickly. Please accept my apologies.

stay in N Yorks, you'll be safer there
Sorry did that come over as ttish - it was meant tongue in cheek?

I was still in North South divide mode from the other thread.

FIST PUMP! YEAH!
Are those tans a joke?

Holy Christ, who thinks that looks good?

I'd rather be pallid as a ghost than orange as a pumpkin!
Is this an oompah lompah reunion evening

Oh, no, no, no.

I think a dress code thread is the ideal place to discuss your shirts.

Or maybe i should start an alternative thread entitled "Lack of dress code".

This is pointless unless we know which area you are going.

Group of guys in Westend decent club? Forget it unless you are a member and have a table (guaranteed spends start at c.£500).

Recently I seem to have developed a gap in my wardrobe between smarter jeans and suit trousers... can anybody recommend me something other than chinos? Bizarre as I normally feel up to speed on all this stuff but just don't know what to think of...

Never had any problem in London - jeans/t-shirt/shirt/jumper and virtually always converse trainers. Not pikey places either. Every now and again I'll stick a suit on - but thats more if we are going to the hotel bars.

Just make sure you don't look smashed/poor and you'll be fine.
thumbup I usually go out in a black shirt, jeans, red tie with a red pair of converse

What an odd way to inform us of your sexuality.

Oh well, good luck bum-boy.

I get around the dress code problem by having a policy of not going anywhere that decides, on the basis of what I am wearing, whether I am a suitable customer or not. I don't want to go a place that dictates to you how you should look before it allows you in.
nail on the head

attitude not clothing is important
