Always thought sat on Alpina’s takes some beating
Definitely an elegant wheel choice that suits the e24
Open lug Alpina's on the earlier original bumpers, closed cap on the later Highline/world bumpers...

...or a genuine Alpina...

I’ve come close to buying E24, E28 and E34 M cars so many times in the past, but never quite got there. One of these would be very welcome on the driveway, and looking around I see one for sale locally, well 400km away local…

Looks v smart and if I had the cash, v tempting too - AU$89k is about £46k…
I believe a few E24 Oz owners have successfuly upgraded their AC to cope with the heat down there.

And likely the better investment and better steer.

Always thought the M635 was a poor design - it never looked cohesive no matter the alloy wheel size or design.

The E31 on the other hand...cloud9

Not a true ///M car though, although so close it qualifies as a very detuned 'what-might-have-been' M8

It had a lot going against it compared to the M635CSi; over 25% heavier and an engine over two litres bigger but well less than 100bhp more despite being ten years newer in design and development.

The M635CSi was a large sports coupe when it was introduced, the 850CSi was only ever a grand tourer from day one.

An actual M8 would have epic but so pricey. The later McLaren engine was a whole different later development and not the engine developed by ///Motorsport for the stillborn M8, which in terms of development was about as roadworthy and useful as the BMW Turbo concept or the E32 Goldfish concept.

I've always been a big fan of these, and there can't be many - any? - lower mileage examples than this.
I wouldn't personally pay such a high price for the low miles, especially as more than sparing use could see its value diminish quite quickly...there are very good examples around for half the price.

Some feel the E28 M5 offers a better steer. I couldn't comment on that, but in terms of value (and rarity) I would also be exploring that option.

Just what I was thinking. It even has Powered by ///M written on the top of the engine. Just not on the outside of the car.

Better looking than anything BMW make today, to my eyes.

An absolute favourite BMW and without the slab-sided front spoiler of other incarnations.
Apart from the 90's German Heavy metal band leather jackets interior, superb. Even like the instruments.

I'm not sure why but I've never been a fan of the E31 8 Series - they just seem lardy to me.

One of these, on more modern BMW running gear (preferably a V8 or M3 straight 6) is a bucket list car for me.

When the 6 series originally came out, it did look rather bloated and dare I say ungainly, compared to its predecessor.

I see one of these parked outside my local gym every single morning, he only uses it in the summer but keeps it at the gym year round - no doubt a crime in the eyes of some collectors but he enjoys it. He's also got a lovely 1980's Merc, which if I remember rightly is either a 500 or 560 SEC. A slightly contrast to his GLS 63 that he's normally storming around in but they are certainly nice to look at each day.

Lovely thing but too much money.

Needs to be dechromed and last-of-the-line 1990/G before asking sill money.

I had a 1989 model of these in Canada in the early 2000's - it was sold as the M6 in North America and that was the last year of production. Quite heavy at town speeds, but really came alive at speed and was an unparalleled cruiser. Very communicative steering above 35 mph or so. Torque for days and a wonderful intake whine at higher revs. Comically gripless in the wet - the TRX tyres didn't help. Would I buy another? Not sure - the shape is timeless but the overall driving experience betrays its age. Truthfully - and this may be sacrilege - I'd rather have a W204 C63 than this.

Interestingly, as soon as I posted my last note, this came up on BringATrailer. I'd have this is a heartbeat.

My cousin owns one. I remember seeing one the same as this in the City in 1999 with a smartly dressed gent parked and sitting in the driver seat. It looks amazing.
