Somehow I've ended up with three cars from '91, and I wouldn't swap any of them for their modern counterparts smile

The feeling you get when driving an old car is amazing! My car is 16 years old and the handling is just perfect ... feather light steering on new cars just takes the fun out of driving!
I'm changing cars next year and will be opting for an older model than the one I currently have. I love old cars, they're so much fun to drive and they look so much sexier than new ones!

Thanks folks, coming back to topic the old cars do have a lot more charisma & feel.. With newer cars, the dreaded electronics create the condom effect.

I've just gone modern after selling my 87 528i auto. I've now got a 98 156 v6 which I like, due to the interior and the engine noise.

I had the 5 for 11 years before I decided I needed to change. I'd go back to having a BMW but with a bigger engine or go slightly insane and get a 928.

A little over 20 years old, but thereabouts. My little, slightly odd-ball, oldie.

That's another problem with modern cars, not enough choice for interior materials. I miss the Tweed in my old Jeep frown Very snug in the winter smile

Great thread, after a year of public transport I have just bought another W124 coupe, to replace my previous one:

I have a 23-year old Alfa Sprint as a second car and the thing I love about it most, compared to modern cars, is the immediacy of all the controls. The throttle response is instant (twin carbs), the unassisted steering is pure and you can hear it doing everything that it does. There's no NVH suppression going on in there. And it's tiny compared to today's cars - chest height and I can reach the passenger door card without leaning across. My RS Clio dwarfs it.

It is also laughably cheap to run, £125 tax a year, £125 insurance a year, it's economical (1.5) and utterly reliable eeklaugh I bought it for £1200 and I'll probably get most of that back if I ever sell.

And then of course there's the noise of that famous boxer engine and the carbs ticking and popping on the overrun, which I could, and do, listen to all day long ears

agreed, this car has by far the biggest grin factor for me, difficult to put your finger on what is missing in todays cars but drive a car of 20 years old and its obvious there is something missing.
