Someone or something has put two shallow dents in the roof of my car. The dents are at the front A pillar and the rear C post. What is the best method of repairing this type of damage and at what cost? I have tried to take pictures but the won`t show up, downside of lots of Swiss wax best of show, I guess!

Find a company that does paintless dent removal PDR and ask them the questions, Google is your friend.

I have had a look at that avenue and ended up more confused than assisted. All the companies said that it is never possible to successfully repair a roof without first removing the headlining. Equally all of them said this was a task they would not undertake, so I would need to have the headcloth removed and then let them have the car and once completed I would need to have the lining replaced. So it makes both pricing and ensuring quality harder and it is offputting when the conversation starts with `roof repairs are difficult/ dont look right` etc

keep trying different compnays , i know this can and has been done in with us .

it does mean using glue stick pullers or/and slide hammers to pull the dent higher than finish repair so it can be dressed down for best results, most will be put off just as its the most risky type of dent removal as its possible to rip of the top coat / top and colour coat or even all 3 layers leaving you with a bigger problem than you started with.
all depends IF the car has had paintwork in the past and if so the A and C pillar is were any blend line joins are made for rear 1/4 panel repaint or front stone chip removal blends too .

So it maybe able to do without roof lining removal .

Unless your car is a classic or something like a gt3 your headlining should be the same as most cars are fitted with which is easily removable/refittable and any competant dent man will be able to do it in his sleep. He may charge you extra for it but it's hardly rocket science. Nearly all dings in roofs don't need the whole lining to be dropped anyway, just the grab handles/visor/A and B pillar trims on one side is usually enough to slip a bar in there and lift the dent.

Thanks for the advice. Just to update things here. I decided to try repairing the damage myself as so many of the places I visited were so negative and I figured I wouldn't really be risking anything. Its damaged now and if I make it worse its still going to be the same cost ( more or less) to have professionally done.
So, I warmed the damaged areas slowly with a heat gun and then used a suction grip like Glaziers use on large window glass, to pull the dents out. Magic!!!!! Worked a treat, feeling very proud of my handywork smile
