It's ben a while since I've done a clutch. Our Seat Leon clutch engagement has been getting lower & lower, and now won't go in gear.

New clutch time, or activation stuff?

Might just have a hydraulic fluid leak, or the master cylinder has failed. smile The only time a clutch really needs repalcing is when its actually slipping or the dual mass flywheel has broken up (bad vibrations when it does)

Isn't is a cable on these - 56 plate?

Anyway, the pedal is stuck on the floor, so I guess the cable is knackered.

They are hydraulic and the clutch stuck to the floor is the symptom of the slave cylinder giving up the ghost. Very common on Leons and Golfs of this era

Weow - news to me. That's explain why the breakdown man managed to pull it back up and drive the car off our drive ready to be carted away.

Cheers

Hmmmm - the full picture here is that the dual-mass flywheel somehow gets out of balance apparently. This causes the gearbox input shaft to vibrate, and it's that which has caused the slave-cylinder to fail. So the whole job is complete clutch, slave-cylinder & a flywheel. £950 all in. Nice!

Never heard the link between the DMF and slave cylinder before, although I'm aware of issues with both

Flywheels do fail, but this is usually known about it in advance as there is a nasty juddering / vibrations from the front end under power, often felt through the clutch pedal too.

£950 would buy you a decent uprated clutch kit complete...

Old thread I know but I have a seat Leon 2006 2.0 140 diesel and the clutch drags in first and reverse, it's had a new clutch/dual mass and both the slave and master cylinder yet it still does it, basically like the clutch is not diepsengaging, selecting gears is fine it's just hold the bite in first after a few presses.

Unsure what to do as its been bled with pressure bleeder and still makes no difference.
Other than this the car drives perfectly, no noises and it does everything it should, bar holding the gears.
