Video: BMW M5 in Blighty
Yes it's a promo vid, but it's got us all excited over the new M5. Again
Not quite exciting enough, some say. The E63 AMG is marginally better, say others. Even our very own Chris-R was merely 'whelmed' by the new BMW M5.
But that's probably partly because we expect so much of new M cars, and possibly partly because motoring hacks are a cynical, jaded lot.
Either way, the new BMW M5 is heading for Blighty pretty darn soon, and this new promo vid is the first one we've seen shot on this sceptred isle. And it's got us all excited about BMW's new uber-saloon all over again.
After all - 560hp, twin-turbo V8, rear-drive, sexy slow-mo powerslides: what's not to like?

Great, but you would need your head examined to spend circa 90k on this with the Knowledge that in 5 odd years it will only be worth £16K (re Autocar mag a few weeks back)..
bks from Autocar as usual then.I spent £69k on my M5 in March 2006 and sold it in September this year for £20k, so it depreciated at an average of £740 per month. I consider that an acceptable cost to drive such a car. An F10 will be worth £25k to £30k at least in five years' time.

But how much will that money be WORTH then...I spent £69k on my M5 in March 2006 and sold it in September this year for £20k, so it depreciated at an average of £740 per month. I consider that an acceptable cost to drive such a car. An F10 will be worth £25k to £30k at least in five years' time.
You're right that you buy cars like this with your eyes wide-open to the staggering costs (or more likely, your company runs it for you so you don't feel the kicking so badly) but this M5 will drop just as fast in 'real' terms as the last one - and the one before that.
In fact, as cars get more complex, their value will drop faster (indeed already does) simply because they meet-up with the point they're no longer worth repairing (or risking money on) sooner...

Since when? 294bhp/tonne vs 184bhp/tonne. It's about the same weight as the last once, infact they've been very lardy since the E39.JonyTVR said:
bit more like how adverts should be! when was the last time you saw a car advert where the car was travelling at speed and had the wheels spinning? now just get it on the tele!
It's been illegal for some time to show cars going fast on television adverts. Fortunately the likes of streaming video on the web make a mockery of those laws.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
