Average speed cameras at Glasgow airport on M8
Discussion
Noticed this at the tail end of last week, glad someone else has!
Is there some temporary roadworks about to start or something? Have to say that the 40 section is this crappest bit of road I have to drive on, I hate it. I go past it every day on the way to the offices and the varience (speeling?) in speed is bloody dangerous, no matter the weather you get all types thundering at 65+ in the outside vs maybe 40-50 in the middle and then 40 on the inside.
My company are Belgian so I work to Belgian hours even when in the UK, so I'm always early and don't speed on the way to work as there isn't really any point on the short route out of the city....if you try to sit at 40 through that section you pretty much have people parking in your boot.
Either sort the lanes out and make them a proper width or police it properly so that mr Q7 doesn't play pinball all over the place beasting by. Can't say I'm really that miffed about these specs cameras.

There are guys doing welding and structural work under the bridge. Above the sewage works (smelly work)
Thevlimit is there as the bridge is collapsing so the lower limit is to lessen stress on bridge until works completed.
I neve speed over it anyway as I've seen too many people done by the usual black and silver unmarked BIBs.

That may be the reason for the lower limit, but it is totally erroneous. Lowering traffic speed actually increases the load on the support stantions. This was the problem with the Kingston Bridge. In the mornings and evenings the traffic was mostly at a standstill or crawl increasing the load and causing it to sink into the Clyde. If a vehicle is travelling faster the load on the stantions is only momentary, not constant.Thevlimit is there as the bridge is collapsing so the lower limit is to lessen stress on bridge until works completed.

Who the hell makes these decisions?!

I'd assume it is more to do with vibrations than anything else.Who the hell makes these decisions?!

I noticed yesterday when driving Eastbound that the first camera stand (before the airport) is in the 50mph zone and the average enforced limit is 40mph. Is the 40mph zone going to commence earlier than at present?2 lane contra-flow for 3 months sounds like it's gonna be a huge PIA.
So I would expect the dark blue BMs with the SF plates to be making a last effort before the cameras go on.
I passed through these every day - on Sunday I sat at 40 in the inside lane and was passed by lots of cars at 60 - all of whom were still doing 60 in teh middle lane well after the limit goes to 70.............

as we overtook them.
