Video: Ferrari 599XX Evolution

What happens when an extreme track day toy becomes, er, even more extreme

This video is taken from the first official shakedown of the new Ferrari 599XX Evo at a recent Ferrari Racing Days event at Suzuka.

If you're unsure exactly what the 599XX Evo is, Ferrari describes it as an evolution of an 'extreme, non-homologated sports berlinetta'. In other words, it's an even more hardcore version of the 599XX, a car that's already neither road-legal nor homologated for racing. A pretty niche market, then.

Still, the 599XX proves there is a call for unbelievably extreme track-only cars, and Ferrari's 'Corsa Cliente' can now participate in the next stage of what is essentially a track-based R&D programme.

You can read more about the detail of the new 599XX Evo in our original story on the car, but the headlines for the 599XX Evo are this: an extra 20hp (bringing things up to 750hp), 516lb ft of torque, 35kg less weight, a shorter final gear ratio and some deeply clever electronically controlled active aerodynamics.

A pretty mouthwatering spec, we hope you'll agree. Shame about the soundtrack to the video, though.

My track car is probably worth less than the grille badge on the 599XX, but I wouldn't swap it for the simple fact that I can go to any track day at any track I choose.

Oh, and the music on that video is a crime against V12's...

I'd be interested to know, what is to stop a customer buying one of these things then taking it out of the silly sausage Ferrari events schedule?

Would love to see the contract you sign when you buy one.

That video reminds me of an intro to a pants Playstation racing game from the 90's.

I like the look and sound of it. I hate the idea of it.
They should use them as a qualifier race for the F1.

Now there is a thought for Bernie to spice up F1.

forget qualifying in the F1 car your going to race, qualify in Identical cars..

one race its 599xx

the next its the new mac road car.

then fiat 500 arbarths

and for silverstone.. drag out some old metro cup cars...

That would sort the men from the boys..

Or just go back to the way it was in the '80s and '90s when the F1 GP race day was supported by the national series. IIRC (memory starting to go a bit) I went to the 1985/7 GPs and these were supported by - Formula Ford, Formula 3, Formula 3000, Touring cars and hatch back cup (poss Metro, could have been clio's) and may another race that I have forgotten. A proper days racing and almost worth the entry price. (sorry got a bit off topic there)

599XX - why not just sell slightly modified LMGT1 cars that can be used on any circuit but don't qualify for the class officially and be done with it ??? They would probably sell a lot more and at not a lot less ££££.

I salute you, I think that is a CRACKING idea. It'll never happen mind, but my god would that be good. I think qualifying would be far more interesting that the race

As much as people say how pointless it is, Ferrari don't seem to have any trouble finding people who want to thrash these monsters around the track. If I could I would. smile

A fool an d his money ...

I love ferraris, but even this is two steps too far. I thought the original XX was a rip off too. It's not like you'll ever get some of the credit when the r&D is put into the next gen road cars
