Evening all,

I'm considering an early Mk3.5 (from around 2009) as a daily driver. I have read with interest about the rust problems that seem to plague mk1 and mk2 mx-5's and I am concerned that the mk3.5 will have the same issues.

Any information gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

I've got a Mk3 & no problems with rust, alloy wheels aren't great (a common fault with NCs)
But there are others that ain't happy http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've got a 2010 Mk3.5, so far no signs of rust (apart from wheel nuts, not exactly serious and soon to be sorted anyway).

Yes, you do need to be careful with Mk1s and early Mk2s, but even the newest Mk1s will now be about 14 years old! The Mk3 is a quite different machine anyway, I don't think you need to worry at all.

Can we please look beyond this view that Mk1 & Mk2 MX5s are "plagued" by rust. The reality of the situation is that these people are talking about 15-20 year old cars that beginning to rust, when in fact they are 10 years beyond their design life. Show me any other 15 to 20 year old model of car that is on the road in large numbers and I will show you a collection of rusty cars!!

My mk1 was extremely rusty, and after 7,000 miles the only rust on my mk3.5 is the wheel nuts.
