Hi
We last went to Le Mans in 1999 (Back flip Mercedes year) and know the importance of being able to get Radio Le Mans around the track.
You guys who go regularly - what radio should should we buy?
What about head phones? As I I remember the problem wih the 'stick it in your ear' type is that there was too much background noise from the track much of the time.

Pit to car communications
Is theer a way to listen in here also?

Thanks

I can't recommend the Peltor headsets enough. I've had a couple of models, currently using one with active noise cancelling and built in fm radio.

Great being able to talk normally, but it takes the edge off the engine noise. Radio reception is good and no wires to get tangled.

I consider them a must have.

Dunno about listening in on pit radio.

If you can justify a decent set of peltor with the earphones built in then great. i however, prefer a standard pair of peltor cans (they are very good) and then wear some in ear earphones as well. That way you can take the cans off between action on the track. You will be listening to radio le mans pretty much ALL the time!!

Shure sound isolating earphones work for me - not cheap but block most outside noise and sound really good too. http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/index.php...

If you can't afford the peltors a pair of screwfix ear defenders with a headphone inside do the job.

True, ear defs + ear phones work, but I found that set up quite uncomfortable after a while, plus wires are a pain in the arse.

The peltor 'racetunes', without the active noise cancelling are cheaper and just as good.

DS240,

I've used an old Aiwa pocket sized radio plus good Sony cans for years butreally must get a Peltor set. What model reference number can you recommend?

thanks

I think the one I currently have is;
HRXS7A-01. These have noise cancellation.
I went from;
Peltor 'racetunes', don't know model number.

There are other makes and models which may be just as good, but I've just been used to using peltor.

All I know is it makes my race trip much better with them.

The signal for Radio Le Mans is very good everywhere in my experience never had a problem. I take my Pure, fits in my back-pack or shorts pockets then at the campsite you can listen to it as a normal radio without headphones.

Guys
Thank you for the info so far.
Peltor seem well respected - I will check these out

FM or DAB or both transmitted?
Can anyone confirm if Radio Le Mans is broadcast ONLY on FM or DAB signal also?
Thanks

Does the Peltor Racetunes work with all frequencies ? i.e the Even numbers ?
The reason for asking is that I cannot find them for sale in the UK, and the US ones may have the same issue as my Mustang, which is that the FM receiver only picks up FM stations ending with an odd number, i.e 99.1

If I recall Radio Le Mans ends in an even number ?

Think it was 91.2MHz last year.

Bit of google action will locate in uk. eBay was my source from uk supplier. I avoided the digital tuner version, so I turn the dial for frequency tuning. Works perfectly, very clear reception. Sometimes the circuit PA system interferred or another radio station hopped in, which needed a little adjustment to get back to RLM. Don't know whether a auto tuner may be more of a nuisance.

I found a UK Ebay seller of the digital worktunes, but they won't accept any EBay questions via email. So they are off my list of suppliers.

I prefer the digital tuner for ease. I'll keep looking, thanks.

I've a question out to a US seller about postage and speed of delivery - I'll keep you in the loop if you wish - he sells double packs (ie two sets of digital cans) - I just need to establish what the VAT position will be as well.
