Image battle - E92 M3 vs E63 M6
Discussion
3 months on I've still no idea what car I want. I've been asking a lot of people recently, and while the E92 M3 seems to get universally positive feedback, the M6 seems to be a little marmite. Some say it's a little old man, other think it's gangster, others the coolest thing since poptarts.
PH - what do we think?

VS

Running costs etc not an issue (don't do many miles), M6 is a little cheaper to purchase but then you need to run the extended warranty, so over all costs about the same. Not too worried about how they drive, I've decided that myself, just purely what peoples image of them are! (mods, please keep out of m power as I'd like a wide opinion)

Image wise I would say go for a Quattroporte, but then I really wouldn't be worrying about what others thought about the perceived image of my car.
Just helped a friend buy one. Very cool car, not for me.I wouldn't say I'm worried about others perceived image of the car, but it's certainly interesting as the M6 seems to draw lots of different reactions.

What does it matter what other people think, buy which ever you prefer the drive of, which you seem to have already decided on.M3 for sure. Had one last year and enjoyed it, though the typical cheaper interior build of the 3 series does grate after a while (cabin rattles etc) which hopefully you wouldn't get in the 6. Most, even if they thought BMW was flash, thought the 3 was the 'drivers choice' of cars and so commanded some kudos.
That said personally (and of course its all opinion) I think the 6 is just plain ugly. It has everything going for it, just both front and rear look unfinished. Shame as its in my bracket, and I'd really like to own one, but just can't get past the looks.

The M6 is growing on me looks wise. I don't actually like the M3 bonnet bulge and prefer the car in general in saloon form.
M6
Oh, it also has a V10
Make of this what you will, but that bonnet bulge looks great from the drivers seat! M6

As much as I like the e92 M3, it would have to be the M6 for me. Its banded about on here a lot about certain cars, but it will have more of a sense of occasion about it.
Other peoples opinions on image wouldn't come into it for me though.
I think they're both quite colour-specific. To my mind, black doesn't suit either car. IMO, the M6 looks better in blue and the M3 looks best in Silverstone (obv!), the darker grey and imola red.
The looks of the 6 have never quite grown on me, but that's just personal taste.
I preferred the looks, the younger image, the marginally better mpg and the smaller size of the M3... I couldn't fit an M6 in the garage and can only just squeeze the M3 in.
We managed approx 24mpg (320ish miles to a tank) driving up through France at a steady 90ish last week.

I've heard the range is pretty poor in the M3 with stories of people filling up every 180 miles if they're a bit heavy footed. Not sure I could be bothered with that.
You would have to be very heavy footed! We managed approx 24mpg (320ish miles to a tank) driving up through France at a steady 90ish last week.
