Hey Carl,

Yep - there are 2 motors - one on the passengers/near side and one on the drivers/off side 2 separate worm cables...

I removed the off side one after fixing the near side - just to check for water ingress and to drill drain holes in the bottom of the plastic housing...

I did only have the near side latch fail though - so if you have both not working then that would suggest a common component failure - which could be the control unit.

Another thought that springs to mind whilst you have the plastic lining out of the rear wheel arch - I had water sloshing about inside the box section of the chassis below the passenger door. Aston garage told me that this is also common and they just poked a few holes in the expended poly foam to allow it to drain out - I didn't see exactly where for myself - but I imagine that you can see the rear end of the chassis section and the foam there-in.

I had the same problem on my DB9. The roof cover panel failed to latch properly and I got the operation paused (or similar) message. This happened on my second day of ownership, bought 2nd hand from an AM dealer. It was going back for a couple of very minor issues anyway so I asked them to look at that as well.

The dealer called me this morning to say that all had been done, when I asked about the roof problem the guy explained exactly the water ingress issue in this thread. Interestingly he said that they replaced the failing motor with a new assembly (new ones are modified to prevent this) and modified the other one to prevent it happening. When pressed he said the fix to the existing one was to drill holes in the bottom to allow any water to drain out.

They collected the car and did the work while I was on holiday, so all round happy customer at the moment!

My db9 roof will close but have to push button twice as others have reported, however when opening the hood cover above the boot will not close and gives roof operation interrupted and will not turn off. My engineer has checked all the worm drives and every part ,mechanical and electrical, he has had the car for over a month now and has been unable to fix it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated, Rob Brown

I had the problem of having to press the button twice as roof was stopping mid cycle and giving error message but no issue with the roof closures, the dealer fixed it under Warranty and said it was a faulty passenger side door module.

On mine, 06, I have to hold switch up or down untill operation is complete, take finger off and operation stops, was told best to always complete the operation in one go as stopping half way can cause problems, this was all from a main dealer, when I get a chance will check what the book says,Neil

Reviving this post just to see if others have had similar issues since.

I did have an issue where the hood paused after only 2 seconds of operation. I replaced the car battery as it was a little tired and left the car diconnected for 24hrs when i fitted the new battery it opened the hood with no issues unitl the lid goes to fully shut - its then it stops and wont latch shut!!

It then puts the hood fully up but stops 1" short - second press of the button and it closes OK.

I have a couple of Dash warnings also - Low coolant / Service Due (which its not) Washer fluid low. The washer fluid was i thought down to broken wire but i have fixed that and its still illuminating

Are they linked to the roof module? If the motors were indeed full of water would they not lock at all? its just in the one operation they fail.

And one last question if i put a new module on i understand it needs flashing at Aston but what if a good proven second hand unit goes on? does this need flashing also.

Thanks

Hi all,

Sorry to resurrect an old post but has anyone had the problem where the rear mini window (not sure what it's called) won't come up when closing the roof on a DB9? Maybe another rest is available amongst all the other resets following a flat battery. Thanks.

Hello PistonHeads,

I have problems with a Aston Martin DB9 06' and once one problem is sorted another arises...

We have an issue with the roof and the windows.

Issue 1. - If i open the roof whilst the windows are calibrated the passenger side window opens half way and the drivers side window goes all the way down and once it goes back inside the door the roof stops moving and then the "Roof failure" message pops up and we have to disconnect the battery in order to get the roof working again (Roof failure only arises when the windows are calibrated.

However if we leave the windows un-calibrated the roof will work continuously with no problems.

Issue 2. - Both rear windows do not work and yesterday we pulled the passengers side apart to access the rear passenger window module to find that the screws for adjusting the windows in place had snapped clean off due to water damage.

we cleaned the connections in the plug and wires and made new bolts to adjust the window when we got the motor to work using a battery and some cables...

We also noticed if we unplugged the passenger rear window module plug, the drivers side rear window would start working with the roof opening and closing (If the windows are not calibrated). We then tried to bypass the plug by soldering cables together but to no effect had the same issue.

The drivers side rear window is the only one working in the rear as long as the passengers side is unplugged.

Issue 3. - The passengers window only goes up when using the drivers side window control if you press up or down with it. (Goes up and down using the passengers control switch with no issue except it does it in segments) has the switch become un-calibrated or a wiring issue?

Is there something i can do after i've calibrated the windows to be able to use the roof successfully i.e a calibration step that I have missed out for the roof or windows itself?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my problems. Tom.

Hi,

Sounds like a lot to take in. If the rear passenger window is effecting the drivers rear then they must be part of the same electrical circuit which may have a short. I have not had to take mine this far sorry.

I still have issues latching open and closed on mine, even after taking out the motors and cleaning the bushes. Did anyone have to remove the rear window glass? I managed to get behind the window motor to remove the small motor to clean but not sure if I need to now look at the latch motors. Will upload a pic of removed motor. Thanks

I've had similar issues, the roof wouldn't close properly (I had to take my finger off the button as it would stop when at the final stage - i.e. closing the roof onto the top of the windscreen, then press the roof close button again to get it to close). This was due to water leaking apparently, was fixed under warranty by the dealer (although took about 2 weeks).

I also had the roof cover thingy not closing properly:

This was fixed at the same time, no idea what caused it (presume water ingress again) but I drove about with it not closing properly for a while with no detrimental effects (except it doesn't look as good). That was also fixed at the same time as the roof not closing properly.

I will have a look through the paperwork sometime this weekend and see if I can find anything that will help any more smile

And before Peter, Mikey or Jockman comment on the tiny little bit of the green alge stuff on the seals, they don't need to bother as it's not there now tongue out
