I'm after an 80's/early 90's hot hatch some point in the near future, so for those who can remember, purely from a nostalgic point of view, lets hear some of your memories from times when our roads were filled with these old beasts...

Which one did you own? Pictures from the time?

How you felt about them at the time

What it was like being able to drive them on roads before speed cameras and mobile camera vans

The theft and joyriding problems, and the soaring insuring premiums and slow death that ensued.

Discuss smile

Alfa 33 16v.

Utterly mental. A proper old-school hot hatch.

Very nearly bought a Strada Abarth, too, but I ran out of bottle.

Started with a 1991 MK3 Fiesta Popular smile
MK3 Fiesta 1.6 s
Then bought a S2 RS Turbo in Red, loved that car, spent far too much
Then a 1995 M3... Does that count?
Then a Escort RS Cosworth,
Back in another M3 this time 1998.
Had a spell of owning a Golf GTI MK2 Oak bay green 3 door big bumper 16v. Hated it, Mrs loved it.
Then another Escort Cosworth.

I loved the 90's cars and late 80's. My dream car is a 964 911 Turbo but would go for the older car as well if I couldnt stretch to the 964 smile

Early 90s I had a white 1988 (F plate) 16v mk2 Astra GTE. I loved it, dash was space age at the time, grey velour recaro seats were some of the most comfy I've ever had in a car and at the time it was seriously quick. Really miss that car TBH.
I also had a 1.6 205 GTI on a J plate in a dark gunmetal grey, fantastic handling little thing but it just felt so flimsy and cheaply built.
ETA - I forgot my favourite - 1998 I ran an E plate (87 IIRC) black 8v mk2 Golf Gti, a go kart on the road - just so much fun, great feedback, solid build quality and one of the best cars I've ever owned in terms of cost per grin smile

The roads did seem a little more wild back then, and the standard of driving generally far better too! What a shame.

Great memories of some of my dad's cars from the early 90's. XR2's and Nova GTE's, though he didn't keep the Nova long. I remember his mkII Golf GTI have a snazzy Mul-T-Lock fitted!

My father's current wife had a Ford (Fiesta) RS1800, bought as a new but pre-registered car at huge discount as being a lady in her '50s she was the only person who could get insurance on it at a reasonable price.

I had

309 SRI
216 GTI Twin Cam
Fiesta RS1800

Always wanted an Uno Turbo, but its one that got away. Probably for the better!

Happy days, but I'm sure driving them now would be a disappointment.

Funny to think though that in the 90's when they came out the VTR was pretty swift and the VTS was considered 'hot'. Awesome cars though, and perhaps good for not being part of the modern power wars. Small size, light weight and with great handling. Remember the first generation VTS with the immobiliser keypad by the gearstick? How very 'old skool'. Coded keys soon saw that invention off.
