Virgin Media Superhub Issue
Discussion
Anyone else have the Superhub? How are you getting on with it?
We received ours this week, but after installation we are seeing lots of connection issues
1 x laptop on Vista and another on Windows 7, and almost every time we want to connect we need to reset the hub.
I've been onto the helpline, but because my question seems to be off script the nice people in India can't help.
If anyone else has seen the same issue and knows what the solution (other than throwing it out the window) is, I'd appreciate some assistance.
TIA

The best is when it throws a wobbler and refuses to allow any wireless devices to connect despite being able to see the AP. At which point you have to login via a wired connection to reset it.
Download something like VisStumbler and see what other Wifi networks are around you, what channels they are using and then choose one as far away from them as possible.

I had issues once after it automatically updated the firmware and could not reboot. I left it cold turkey without power for a minute and it was ok when I turned it back on.
The 'superhub' has massive limitations, especially if you want to use your own DNS settings - you can't! My best advice would be just to use as a cable modem and set it to 'Bypass Mode' where LAN port 1 becomes a pass through for a decent router. This is what I've done.

They are st.
This, they're properly st.Turn it to modem mode and use your own router/wireless AP. I use an Apple Airport Express, but literally any wireless AP that's not the PooperHub will be better.
It's a shame it's such a poor piece of kit as Virgins actual internet connection is fabulous.
Note there have been lots of firmware updates, none of which have actually fixed the issue, despite claims to the contrary.
Had mine a year in December, we had a few teething issues to start with, which were sorted fairly quickly by an engineer coming out to change the settings and adding something to the cable where it goes into the unit and now it's fantastic and has never let us down, we use it wirelessly.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Asus to replace this. I'm hoping it will be a better bet.
You have to use the Superhub in some form or another, you can't replace it as a modem.I presume Virgin lock the MAC address of the machine to the account holder, so you'd have to spoof that if you're desperate, could well be more complicated than that however.

Really? Well that sucks. I may just do what I did army folks house and connect up netgear 834 router.Exvellent wireless connectivity on those little things.
CJ - that's the little bh I was talking about. Wan one of them so bad.
I've got one. It's not just a great dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously) router with great signal strength - it's also an art.CJ - that's the little bh I was talking about. Wan one of them so bad.
And let's face it, who wouldn't want a router that's an art?
