Anyone else have the Superhub? How are you getting on with it?

We received ours this week, but after installation we are seeing lots of connection issues frown

1 x laptop on Vista and another on Windows 7, and almost every time we want to connect we need to reset the hub.

I've been onto the helpline, but because my question seems to be off script the nice people in India can't help.

If anyone else has seen the same issue and knows what the solution (other than throwing it out the window) is, I'd appreciate some assistance.

TIA

Have one, I use it as a modem only and connect my current wireless router to it. this works much better.

The superhub is anything but super

I take it your connecting wirelessly?

Try changing frequencies, and disabling upnp.

Or plug them in with a cable.

The best is when it throws a wobbler and refuses to allow any wireless devices to connect despite being able to see the AP. At which point you have to login via a wired connection to reset it.

Download something like VisStumbler and see what other Wifi networks are around you, what channels they are using and then choose one as far away from them as possible.

I had issues once after it automatically updated the firmware and could not reboot. I left it cold turkey without power for a minute and it was ok when I turned it back on.

The 'superhub' has massive limitations, especially if you want to use your own DNS settings - you can't! My best advice would be just to use as a cable modem and set it to 'Bypass Mode' where LAN port 1 becomes a pass through for a decent router. This is what I've done.

This, they're properly st.

Turn it to modem mode and use your own router/wireless AP. I use an Apple Airport Express, but literally any wireless AP that's not the PooperHub will be better.

It's a shame it's such a poor piece of kit as Virgins actual internet connection is fabulous.

Note there have been lots of firmware updates, none of which have actually fixed the issue, despite claims to the contrary.

Had mine about a month now and other than it completely resetting itself to factory settings once in the first week it's been okay. Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones smile

I know lots of people don't like them.

Mine has been absolutely fine. Surprisingly so.

I kept my old router and was going to run the hub in pass through "cable modem" mode. I've still not done that.

Had mine a year in December, we had a few teething issues to start with, which were sorted fairly quickly by an engineer coming out to change the settings and adding something to the cable where it goes into the unit and now it's fantastic and has never let us down, we use it wirelessly.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Asus to replace this. I'm hoping it will be a better bet.

You have to use the Superhub in some form or another, you can't replace it as a modem.

I presume Virgin lock the MAC address of the machine to the account holder, so you'd have to spoof that if you're desperate, could well be more complicated than that however.

The Virgin forums are full of people having problems with the super hubs. Mine has been ok so far and I've had it for around 2 months. The I've kept the old router just in case

I had a lot of trouble with my Superhub too - I ended up running it in modem only mode and plugging in the old router Virgin gave me since it worked quicker in Wireless G than the Superhub did in Wireless N.

I've got one. It's not just a great dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously) router with great signal strength - it's also an art.

And let's face it, who wouldn't want a router that's an art?

Wow - didn't realise they're so troublesome!

Had ours since Monday - no problems so far (touch wood)!

Getting a nice stable reliable service with just one glitch over two years, so happily upgraded this week.

I get a signal a 3rd of the way down my 200ft garden, the house itself has a brilliant signal anywhere.
