The Vulture was a good buy at £20 Million plus upgrades, now its a steal at £5 Million, every bd has one its getting a bit old.

Its a shame as the reduced repair costs made the Asp a much better proposition for bounty hunting, but its just no in way as good as the vulture and more expensive kitted out than a T7 if you just want to trade. Hauler and Adder are less risky for exploring..Asp just looks st now!

Hell you can even put a decent cargo hold on the Vulture making it an upgrade from the Cobra. The Asp now looks like a naff upgrade from the T6.
If you're using the ASP as a multipurpose ship it is still very good.

Say you want to trade and bounty hunt you could have either a) an ASP, or b) a T6 and a Viper. In that scenario the ASP wins for me because you only have to upgrade one ship and you outfit for different roles as you change between them.

Now your options are either a) an ASP, or b) a T6 and a Vulture. The Vulture sounds great, although I haven't tried it yet, but if you want to jump from one role to another you still need a second ship because it doesn't outfit for trade well, and then you have the hassle/cost of upgrading two ships.

For now I'm sticking with my ASP until I can afford a Clipper.

On the subject of ships, what's the "logical upgrade" from an Eagle? I'm starting to build up a little bit of money through bounty hunting so would like a target to aim for.

Assuming you like combat, then I would say a Viper followed by a Vulture.

The reality is that money is much easier to make now, this means its far more convenient to sell your current ship when you change roles, you only lose 5% on the hull, nothing on the upgrades, and do not have to travel half way over the galaxy to pick up your stored ship which is anyway identical to a freshly brought one. Trade in a T6 sell to fight in a vulture sell to explore in an Adder, no Asp in this equation and the ASP is very expensive to upgrade..£49 Million.

.. top shields are stupidly expensive. Mine in a.....too bored to fill a hold of any reasonable size...Cobra? But then the vulture can have a comparable amount of hold space....

The selling of your ship changes once you reach the Mega monies ships, say +£50 million, but still you only lose £2.5Million which is 2 hours of fighting in a RES...so maybe not.

Selling your current ship, upgrading the replacement, and losing money in the process, is hardly "convenient". To each their own though, and at least when you do have your vulture it should be pretty damn good compared to my 15M credit ASP smile

Love the asp, really enjoy fighting in it. Have just done the imperial baron mission so can buy the clipper now and nearly 30 mil in the bank so going to give it a go alongside the asp, can't bring myself to,sell it.

I used a t7 to credit grind to fund asp upgrades but the clipper should carry more so will use that until I have enough to really upgrade it.

Asp shields. C6 is 1.7m, b6 is 5.somethingm and a6 16.7m credits. Elite wiki has a table showing strength per ship and there is only 7 points between each so struggling to justify the a class shield. B class seems a relatively good value but not the extra 11m odd for a class for only 3% more power. Figured I would get a cell bank and booster, I can die 10 times until I am out of pocket for not buying the a classed shield. Have also learned to fight better as a result ;-)

What a muppet.

Ok so I shouldn't go taking on an Anaconda after a skin full.

I really shouldn't do that when I'm already 550k in debt due to pervious nights playing after a few beers.

Bye bye Vulture, hello Sidewinder. cry

I don't know if I have the motivation to carry on...

So I went off exploring but on the way out I found this little chap unscanned in explored space so had to make a diversion just to get my name on something bounce

So back into civilization now after 2 weeks exploring. 10 pages of data and 3000 LY round trip.

Made 3 million credits in data and managed to put my name on a lot of systems. Got through a lot of audio books whilst doing it too lol.

Things I have learnt:

1) Set your navigation to just show you the stars you can Scoop, this helps for refueling and also most of these stars will have the more interesting planets.

2) Belts don't make any money at all so no point in scanning them (only found out when I got back

3) Pay some attention and not alt tab to read PH! Ended up in a star more than once!

Plan on doing some wings stuff with my mates, get some cash and then head back into the void....this time in an Asp so I can go further before fuel becomes a worry.

I think you may have missed a trick there - I'm just about to head off into the void for the first time but from what I've read the "non-sequencing" stars are worth big bucks. There might not be any planets, but you can scan the neutron star/black hole/whatever and then move on quickly.

I'm not sure how I'm going to get on with Exploring - watching the hyperspace sequence and sitting in supercruise are my least favourite parts in the game, seeing as this is pretty much what is involved, along with 10 second waits to scan stuff, I could be hitting the self destruct!

Ah Will keep that in mind for the next trip.

I didn't find it too bad, just had some books playing so I didnt get board. The one thing that did annoy me is Elite dosn't save your route when you log off. So kept having to replot each time.

Unless I have missed something

I'm about 1500Ly out now towards the galactic core and I thought I'd be bored but so far it's been okay. I did a test run to the Parrot's Head Nebula over the weekend and made about 1.5 million for about 4-5 hours work which obviously isn't that great compared to trading or combat. Got my name on a few systems as well.

I felt I was burning out with just trading and combat so I'm going to be exploring now for probably a month or two as it'll take me about 1-2 weeks to get to Sagittarius A (25,000Ly) with only spending a couple of hours a day, plus I also keep getting distracted scanning things along the way.

The Elite Wiki has a breakdown of what's worth scanning and what isn't.

Sounds like there's a story there....

Very much loving the Imperial Clipper and having a lot of fun it. Feels like the ultimate PH spaceship..

Struggling to find the right weps though, Does anyone know where I can get Gimballed Large Burst lasers?

Took me ages to find the large gimbled laser, just hunt tech and industrial systems! Got my clipper decked out A class of 95% modules with 0 cargo replaced it will armour and 2 shield boosters could do 3 but like my point defence!

I just got to Lord rank, the Clipper is in sight. The lack of progress bars for reputation is getting on my nerves, and apparently even if you do get to the right level to rank up there is some RNG built in to make the quest for it randomly not appear. Stupid.

Just done similar, out to the Orion Nebula and back via the Spirograph.
Gas giants are worth scanning, handily you can do it from miles away as well. Same with stars.
The exotic stars & black holes are worth most, but rare obviously. I came across 2 BH and 1 Neutron on my trip.
As far as other planets go, the "world" types (waterworlds etc) are worth lots, so scan those. Metal rich ones if they're close. Rock/Ice planets I just didn't bother with. Made 3.6 million so not a bad trip.
Finding unexplored systems gives a bonus so it's worth getting off the beaten track.

I found it quite fun in a relaxing kind of way, for an hour or so in an evening, it probably helps if you're a bit of an astronomy geek though. That said I don't know how people go for 10s of thousands of LY, it must take aaaaages. Feels quite weird comming back in, I'm going to head up to the Lave area and do some of that player interaction stuff for a bit now.
