See http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

I think they are more or less the same. Warranty direct seems cheaper, but check the wording on the policy for what things you want covered.

It's even stevens for me - they denied a claim on a new radiator as it had failed due to corrosion (on a 5 year old vehicle?) but approved a claim for a new intercooler, which had been rubbing against another part and worn through.

Personally I'd have been far better off just putting the money paid to WD into an emergency car fund, but had it been a turbo or injector failure then it would have been worthwhile.

Always haggle the rates as they have a lot of room for manouvre, never accept they're first price. They will call back again with a better price. Check the T&Cs as a lot of worthwhile policy cover is only included in extra add-on packages.

We have been with WW for 18 months now. 6 months after getting the car (E61 5 Series) we had problems with a misfire and por running in cold weather. After 2 trips to the BMW dealer for replacement ignition coils and various other bits the problem was still occurring. I eventually took it to a local specialist BMW who immediately diagnosed it as a an injector fault and replaced 3 injectors + all plugs. Problem resolved.

WW covered pretty much all of the costs involved (including diagnostics) and payment was received promptly and without issue. TBH I was pretty impressed with how helpful they were and the fact that they didn't try and riggle out of anything, even after 3 fairly hefty bills in a 6 week period.

Nothing bad to say about them.

Yes that's been my experience. They do what it says on the tin. They are prompt with the payment and generally reply to emails within a few hours as well. I have put WW on a golf diesel and my friend has put his on a ford focus. Also heard good thing about warranty direct as well.

Did you compare premiums with WD? WW were 2x the price on my Merc (£1000 vs £500) and I couldn't see any significant difference in cover. But these things are about peace of mind and your experience with WW sounds very good.

The WD policy was on a 2006 Fabia VRS - so EGR, expensive injectors, DMF, turbo failures were all in the back of my mind. However I still seemed to pay a fair chunk of any claims as the parts cost was reduced in percentage with age, and I don't think they cover any garage diagnostic costs either.

warranty direct refused to pay out on my alternator when the bearings were making a heck of a noise. They said it had to 'fail' and i had to breakdown to be covered.

the alternator died on the M1 a week after the warranty expired.

They phone me up just after i had it repaired to offer me a discounted deal, i politely declined

I'd get the car still serviced by VW, but need a competent warranty company.

Is it possible to purchase das auto warranty?

Better off saving the money.
Not sure if I can say on here as my thread was deleted previously (do they have adverts /sponsorship here?)
Anyway my experience is to avoid at all costs.

WD have been good to me, I'd recommend them. Very easy to deal with if you have full service history. However you may find putting the premium under your mattress just as effective as any warranty company, but if a BIG problem occurs, it is nice when someone else covers it.

Had a WD policy on a car a few years back and ended up claiming when I "lost" 5th gear. The garage were very good and liased with them directly and I paid the bill and then had a cheque back from WD within a few days. Only part I was a bit miffed by was that they would only pay for a courtesy car for the time my car was being worked on (measured in hours), rather than the time my car was off the road (measured in days, awaiting parts) which meant I ended up paying for a week of car hire out of my own pocket. I had the policy two years and I think I broke even with the claim.

Since then, I've always opted to put money aside in a bank account each year...

I have a WD policy and you don't have to break down, although the alternator failing would result in that fairly quickly.

These policies are all the same - they're insurance against things breaking. They don't cover "it's making a funny noise" etc.

WD paid out to me recently on a broken spring. They could have easily said it was due to corrosion, but didn't. I need my car for work so have full dealer rate cover and it all worked fine - MB dealer picked up the broken spring on a service, quickly got authorisation and the car was repaired and back to me same day.

considering WW or WD for a 997 turbo, so looking for a wear and tear covered and a high claim limit

WD advertise as:

"Cover for wear & tear, deteriorating parts and damage by uninsured parts" / "Includes cover for "Premature", "Gradual" and "Normal" Wear & Tear to insured parts" - but not for first 90 days

"Use the repair facility of your choice with unlimited labour rates available" - good for Porsche indies!

"Annual Policy/Claims limit to Car value" - covers a £25k Mezger engine

any possible downsides?

For a Porsche I would either get a Porsche warranty or an Inchcape warranty.

It does look like some dealers are Inchape

http://www.inchcape.co.uk/porsche/

Call the dealer and see if they will sell you an Inchape warranty. The Inchcape warranty is just as good as the dealer warranty and on something like a Porsche you want this.
