Simple question but is there a simple answer?

Just watching the Moto 2&3 that I have not seen. know the results but thinking there is a high percentage of Spanish riders in the top flight of Motorbike racing

Anyone shed any light why this may be?

They school 'em from a very young age, and have lots of racing series's for youngsters. I think Marquez answered this very question at the press conference after win last weekend.

They can drive bikes at younger ages than cars, and everyone in the cities uses mopeds or small bikes anyway. Much more practical day to day for them so they are introduced to it from day dot. In the UK unless your parents ride then you dont really see that many, its certainly less in your face.

I agree with that, but also the climate allows them to ride scooters and smaller cc bikes all year round, which will also allow them to practise much more, don't get me wrong it does get colder in the winter, not minus temps though and the area is generally much drier.

Practice makes perfect so they say, you could also ask why they have a so many excellent footballers

Over and above this you have the financial side. Spanish and Italian companies view bike racing as a good place to promote their product. Understandably they would rather support 'local' riders. This makes it easier for Spanish and Italian riders to raise the funds that are required to race in Moto2 and Moto3.
