Anyone familiar with BMW individual paint (Ruby Red)?
Discussion
Sorry, I meant Ruby Black...not Red!
Looking at an X5 (E70) in Ruby Black and Champagne Merino lthr - BMW Individual, looks like extended leather. Anyone familiar with these colours and combo? would like to know what they are like in 'real life' and as an everyday proposition. Where these a very expensive option?

I like it, a dark purpley metallic. I have carbon black on my 640d, ruby black looks a little more distinctive and maybe classier. I like the light interior as well, although could attract a few marks, but now my kids are all adults it should be ok. Dogs will be populating the boot so would need some protection in there if the carpet is not black, although I suspect it is.

I have just purchased a new Ruby Black X5 and while the colour looks fab in bright sunlight from close range (a few feet) the rest of the time it just looks black I would not make the same decision again
Agree..when I did my M6 I expect that there would be more red in normal conditions.I assume the metallic fleck is just red coated in ruby, and blue coated in carbon.
Since the metallic fleck is only illuminated in an isolated fashion under spot/point lights (sun, showrooms etc) then it'll just look mostly black until it's sunny etc.
I like the idea of them, but my nightmare concern is if they're damaged and need respray work.

Same as blending any metallic paint really Since the metallic fleck is only illuminated in an isolated fashion under spot/point lights (sun, showrooms etc) then it'll just look mostly black until it's sunny etc.

I had a Ruby Black Z4 Coupe with Pearl Grey interior for a couple of years.
When the light hit it right it looked fantastic, but living in the UK that didn't happen often and the rest of the time it just looked black which also meant it was a PITA to keep clean!
When I went looking for a replacement I got Montego Blue as it has some colour all year.

So you have a harder time matching.
Then you throw in the paint supplier who might not match the tint perfectly.
I'm sure it's possible but it adds complexity.
I recall a PH thread from a decade or so ago with a Honda S2000 that's been sprayed/blended that looked fine most of the time, but in flash photos on a night half the car was a different colour. Not ideal.
