For the gents looking at the lancaster shot here is how it was composed. They even roped in the fire section to make the ground wet for a reflection. The Tornado shot was taken by SAC Andy Masson (it won PR shot of the year) and he also won two other categories. Very talented photographer and definitely not a gash photo on a friends camera.
Glad people are giving positive feedback on the BBMF stuff; the Spitfire shot and the Lancaster timelapse are both my work (excuse the sudden change in WB/exposure on the timelapse, it was taken on a GoPro...) while the Lancaster night shot was done by a good friend of mine. We did indeed rope the fire section in to help with both lighting and wetting the pan. As for the other images not being particularly strong, please remember that you're looking at ~30 odd images on that link out of hundreds that were submitted. The images were judged by three independent civilians with many years of experience and these are the ones being primarily showcased.

Certainly in the amateur category the standard is below par of other users, I should of entered this year but couldn't be arsed as the other year they annoyed me. And how can a photo of a vulcan be included as I thought it had to represent the current Air Force? I'm a bit myth end because the really bad chinook image that's on the link above is not included in any of the categories on the RAF website.
Good work by the way but I'm sure I've said that before.
