Great replys folks
Some food for thought .maybe leasing is an idea.

As I said don't dismiss electric cars.ive only got a twizy but it's got to be one of the most fun cars I've had plus have you seen the YouTube videos of the tesla insane mode. 0-60 in 3.3 secs.
I guess if doing 0-60 dashes floats you boat, then the Tesla is your car. Personally, I don't buy cars on 0-60 times as these days cars in that class are pretty much sub-6 seconds anyway. So I look at other features. Interior looks and quality, as well as exterior looks. Given those considerations, the Tesla would fail at the first hurdle given that hideous screen and dash design. It really is an awful piece of styling imo..

Personally i switched from a 2009 (59) Nissan GTR to a Tesla Roadster and I've never looked back. The roadster is amazing to drive, costs almost nothing to run (£3.50 per charge) and can do 244 miles per charge. Ive had my car for over 1 year and experienced zero issues. I have covered 14000 miles and every single one i have driven the car properly. Launched from every set of lights, even taken it up a mountain in the Lake district. The car hasn't missed a beat. I love it. The GTR was amazing in its own ways but nothing like the Tesla Roadster. Its special in so many ways. Its Carbon fibre, the HIFi is awesome, Theres no power steering to you feel connected to the road, its comfortable as it only has a single speed gearbox so its just point and squirt power. It can do 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds and its super high tech meets basic inside. Has all the things you need in a sports car, cruise control, heated seats, air con, leather, premium audio, iPod connectivity, programmable performance modes etc. As a car its all turned up to 11 and then it comes to charging it. You charge at home, it costs about £3.50 and charges overnight from a 3 pin plug or faster from a proper connector (basically its always full and ready to go) if you want to charge when out and about you can use the public chargers at the services across the country for free and it will charge from 0-full in 4 hours. You can always split your charging over multiple sites to reduce sitting in the same place for long. Basically its a car you can drive like you stole with £0 fuel bill and £0 road tax. Then you can hopefully sell it for a profit in a few years as there are less than 50 right hand drive Tesla roadsters in existence and only 17 Roadster sports in the UK. You feel like a celebrity when you stop to charge as nobody has seen one and people completely mob you the second you plug it in. Its awesome. Nobody looks twice at a GTR or Porsche these days. Try one, there are some complete bargains around, as soon as Tesla release the new V3.0 400 mile battery upgrade next month, expect values to rise. This car is a collectible and a future classic. Oh and the roof is removable for when the sun comes out.

And my old GTR

Is this for real? Turning 50, and you want buy a Tesla?

Buy the Nissan GT-R and have the time of your life - it will outlive you I reckon. Less than 3 seconds 0-60? Mentally quick top end? It's frighteningly good. The engineers at Nissan are scratching their heads around why it hasn't sold more
This.

Tesla is very nice, but is it a "last hurrah" car? GTR will put a big smile on your face and will be more car than most people can handle.

EDIT: Bad timing on this reply biggrin

I was in similar situation earlier in year. I had come from a 370z so was naturally leaning towards a GTR. Awesome as they are, they didn't give me great sensation (apart from the acceleration aspect). I plonked my cash on an F Type and the sound is fantastic, performance, looks and interior make it special (to me) too.
Take one for a blast.

50th birthday next year.im tempted by a new tesla model s .but what else should I cosider for £54000.
I can just afford monthly payments over 6 years.

So far I'm looking at second hand Audi R8 Nissan GT-R or Porsche caymen.
This will be a last splurge before retirement so don't want to regret purchase.

I was thinking of picking up new tesla and travelling for free from scotland to Europe using the supercharger network but just a thought. At the moment.

Lastly I don't want to be stung by massive ownership costs or pick a car that will depreciate rapidly..any thoughts welcome.
Cayman GTS, if you hurry, there might be a dealer working late tonight. Buy one now!!! smile

Read the date of my response... I don't think the situation had developed or was widely known at this point.
