After having a full bare metal respray , I was thinking about getting Gtechniq applied to my 964 (Polar Silver metallic) any thoughts from people who've had it done - Is the benefit purely water run off / easier to clean or is there an aesthetic benefit in terms of improving the look of the cars paintwork ? Any thoughts would be most welcome , thanks.

Over the past 25 years I've tried most waxes and polishes that have been available.

First used G Technic Liquid Crystal 2 years ago. Haven't used anything else since.

The shine is different, perhaps higher gloss. Some have described it as " varnishy looking."

Its ease of application, cleaning and longevity are for me why I will keep using it.

Having scrupulously clean paintwork prior to application is essential.

Rich, it's good, the best I've seen and we have some experience with coatings like this for other applications.

Needs to be applied correctly, I use Adam, http://revolutiondetailing.co.uk/contact-us/

Lively guy, and very experienced.

Both Rich. Had it on my wife's 997 for 6 months. Deep lustre to paint and water still beads and runs off like it was done yesterday. Car feels super smooth to touch. Reckoned to last up to 18 months. Dust and crap still sticks to the car sadly.

Have done this on 4 Porsches now. Excellent stuff. We left one car unwashed for 3 weeks to test and a simple wash restored the car to its glory. Highly recommended.

Cheers guys very good to know - sometimes these things are pants !

Without wanting to get too technical , there are apparently two different types - does anyone know the difference between Gtechiq C1 and EXO - I assume the EXO costs more / is "better" it's a whole new world to me smile cheers.

Hi had my 997 C2S done recently prior to collection when I bought it from Dovehouse. It is excellent. Previously I have applied waxes/polishes myself but these new coatings such as gtechniq are quite technical that I decided to let the professionals do it. Get the Gtechniq Platinum product applied - it is their ultimate product & can only be done by a Gtechniq certified detailer - these products are only available to the trade. The cost for me was quite reasonable as Dovehouse prep their cars to machine polish so to add the gtechniq in was not too bad. Think it may cost you £500 but includes exterior/wheels/interior - you get a five year warranty & a nice Gtechniq detailing bag full of goodies that you will actually use to maintain your car (which is worth £100). Not sure where you live but Dovehouse in Rushden, Northants has a Gtechniq certified chap.

My CGTS is a little over a year old with 5k on the clock. I was quoted £750 for the full detail (minus engine bay) which I thought was a bit steep??

Having said that I'm keen to have it done, any recommendations for North Essex?

The Gtechniq web site might point you to one of their certified detailers - or try their customer services for help.

Its over the bridge for you mate in Kent but cannot recommend Rob Tomlin at Supercar detailing enough. Top bloke, loves his 911's too. I think I read that RPM which could be a bit nearer you are also certified to do Gtechniq too.
I'll have to look more closely at these more modern sealents myself...the older ones from people like Autoglym I found that personally stuff like tar - which is a bar steward to get off at the best of times stuck to these sort of 5 year treatments even more. That said I am sure the game has moved on massively since then.

I have used it on 4 cars now and it is far better than anything else, especially on new paint.
Special effort must be made to clean the paint carefully first using alcohol.
Great stuff-forget expensive waxes.

C1 is a 'glass' type coating that provides some resistance to wash marring as well as providing the aesthetic and maintenance benefits that a traditional wax or sealant provides (but much longer lasting than these). Due to the semi-permanent nature of these coatings they are best applied to paintwork that has been corrected for swirls and scratches as these can be highlighted by the coatings and would be 'locked in' once it's applied. Can be applied at home, but probably best if you have a good amount of detailing experience as can be tricky to get right and it's difficult to rectify mistakes.

'Crystal Serum' is their top-end glass coating product which I believe is even harder and longer lasting compared to C1. This is professional application only.

'Exo' is a different type of product from the glass coatings and is often applied over the top of the aforementioned coatings. This adds an extreme 'slickness' and gloss and repels water, dirt and contamination to an even greater degree therefore keeping the car cleaner and shinier for longer. No protection from wash marring from Exo on its own. Personally, I've found this one a bit fussy to apply (lots of smearing).

Gtechnic are not the only suppliers of these types of products and they are all very, very similar. Other names to look out for are Gyeon, CQuartz and Modesta, but there are an awful lot more to choose from.

Glass coatings are well worth using in my opinion and provide really great looks and protection to the paintwork. I've had a glass coating on my car for the last two years and wouldn't switch to anything else now.

p.s. they look fantastic on metallic paints - really bring out the flake, compared to a wax which dulls the flake IMO. Would be perfect for Polar Silver!

No problem at all. Any excuse to talk detailing!

Wash marring is the tiny, tiny scratches and swirl marks that accumulate just from the process of washing and generally any manual contact with the paint. It's usually very visible on a bright sunny day and more so on darker colours. White and silver cars hide it well but it's usually there. Can't be completely avoided but can be minimised with a good wash technique (and a glass coating of course).

Right I'll shut up now, I don't want to become the resident detailing bore!!

Thanks - this puts a name to my wash technique : put my sponge in the water that I've used to clean all the dirt off the body / wheels and then accidentally drop it on the gravel drive & pick it up and rub it really hard on the car to get a good shine - works a treat smile

Ouch! That's bringing me out in a cold sweat just thinking about it!

If you're looking for a volunteer to keep the new RS shining then I'm happy to be considered. This will, of course, require the car to be dropped off to me each weekend for TLC wink

There is a serious point here though in that spending a ton of money on having your car detailed and sealed using something like Gtechniq counts for jack st if you continue to wash it that way smile

Basically you'd do better spending £30 on some decent wash media and buckets before considering anything else.

There is a product that the detailing world is raving about called 'Modesta' - anyone used it?
