Why don't we make more of a fuss over the 911 GT2?
Discussion
I have often wondered why we don't make more a fuss over the GT2 911's. Straight to the point, but think about it. For many years now, we've been used to hearing about the GT3 911's and how they are often considered the Holy Grail of whatever generation of 911 they belong to.
The 993 GT2 seems to crop up in every discussion about wild supercars. Indeed, I heard a rumour that some magazine test drivers have crashed one and died as a result, but I never did chase that up and find out. The 996 and 997 GT2's seem less written about. The GT2 is always wilder, more powerful and more sexy than the GT3 it lived alongside. Why do we never really hear about the GT2 models then, despite their representation of the true pinnacle of their generations? Is it because they are so rare and the GT3 was more attainable?

Good question.
I'm guilty of always harping on about the 993 GT2 - I think it's the best combination of looks and high performance that Porsche have ever made.
The 997 GT2 RS was also mental - with a 200 mph top speed and a proper gearbox. Sadly limited edition status and a high price tag have probably made it unobtainable and a collectors piece.

997 GT2RS is THE 911 for me

Short of a lottery win it'll remain a driving experience day treat though for me so not worth getting fussed over

Because homologation.
Original GT (was it ever called a GT2?) was a bonafide special car with its bolt on arches etc. as was the GT3, which was up until the latest version was the homologation version of the GT3/cup car variants. Both were very simply road legal versions of the cars you watched racing on a Sunday.
GT2 (the water cooled versions at least) were just a marketing department car, nothing to do with any GT2 race cars. Not that that's stopped them being speculated up in the latest bubble.

The sexiest Porsche of the modern era (barring the fancy stuff like the 918 and the Carrera GT). Probably often forgotten due to it's high price and limited numbers. To the average street tart it could be any old 911 and so loses posing power over the Italian stuff you could pick up for £165,000.

Because turbo is more cheap and gt3 is more raw.
Gt2 is more expensive and more unfeel
Different feel rather than more unfeel?Gt2 is more expensive and more unfeel
In a turbocharged GT2 you will feel higher order accelerations, i.e. where acceleration (a) is a function of time a=f(t^n) not just a=constant, that you won't get from a GT3 and that's what tips it in favour of the GT2 for me as the sensation of increasing warp is compelling and addictive.
