Hi folks,

I bought one of the Kindle Fire tablets on the Amazon Prime deal and after playing about with it I'm wondering if it can be used to drive the USB endoscope that I normally use with a small laptop.

It seems there are android apps around to let these things work with some phones, has anyone tried the same with the Kindle Fire ?

TIA

I use one with my phone.

The app I downloaded is called MScopes.

Should surely work if you install play store No?

I tried one called "mscope" from the Amazon store and that installed, found the camera and asked for permission to use it, but that was about as far as I got. No image on screen and I guess it just wasn't compatible. With a similar sounding title, I'm guessing this is the one you've used ?

I'm thinking it's a bit of a long shot as I'm a real novice with these things but the Fire would be more convenient to use than balancing a laptop. Anyone else manage to get one running ? I don't mind buying another USB camera if there's one around which will work.

The endoscopes will only work if your device supports OTG (has USB host mode). Not all android devices support OTG. From what I can make out some Kindle Fire's support it and some don't. The later ones are supposed to support it.

Thanks folks, until now I didn't know what OTG was..... rolleyes (I did say it was all new to me)

This is the 5th Gen Fire and supposedly runs OTG from various web comments, so there's a chance. The MScope app did recognise the camera so maybe there's hope yet, just a case of finding the right app.

My 6inch budget amazon fire supports OTG... so there is hope.
As for apps, you can sideload apps from the google store onto your kindle, as not all of the apps are replicated in the amazon store.

EZ file explorer is a must have. Find the app with a google device on the google store, and then copy it via the explorer to use it.

Cheers. Mine is the latest gen. tablet and I think it's ok, it's just a case of finding an app that works. Most of the ones I've seen appear to be specific in exactly what they work with, several comments of "doesn't work", so it's just a case of finding the right one.

As I said earlier, this is a new area for me & I'm learning slowly so thanks for the tip about the EZ file explorer. Quite impressed with the Fire though, when I think back to what I paid for a Psion....
