I’ve listened to a few of The Portal with Eric Weinstein, not punchy but deep with emphasis on ‘long-form’ so not everyone’s cup of tea but recently he had Sir Roger Penrose on (mind blowing, and I’m fairly au fait) and then the next was Riley Reid (adult performer) who, apart from that Cali accent!) was also very interesting.
Think the older ones are on YouTube. Anyway, maybe not for all but great conversations if a bit ethereal at times.

yeah, there is some fascinating conversation on Eric's podcast, when you look around and see just how dumb most of the conversation on mainstream political issues is, with everything reduced to muck flinging by idiots who can't comprehend beyond tribal loyalties, its nice to be humbled to listen to and be informed by some really intelligent individuals. They do exist!

As I'm certainly au fait with Riley Reid's work, but never heard of Sir Roger Penrose, I'm not so sure this one's for me...hehe

This one got me hooked - especially as, unlike the Cryptoqueen, she was jailed:

I was sat outside my house earlier, in the car, while it finished...

Thanks. Another one for my list.

I love anything to do with fraud investigations.

"The Dropout" worth a listen.

https://abcaudio.com/podcasts/the-dropout/

"Money. Romance. Tragedy. Deception. The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did the woman once heralded as “the next Steve Jobs” find herself facing criminal charges — to which she pleaded not guilty — and up to 20 years in jail? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize healthcare, potentially put millions of patients at risk? And how did so many smart people get it so wrong along the way?"

Blimey, that's quite a list below.

Noticed yesterday that Season 2 of 13 Minutes to the Moon starts in March - covering the Apollo 13 this time.

Coincidentally I just finished listening to this after being recommended it elsewhere - was very interesting. I did a search for podcasts like it into Google and was suggested 'Into the Dark'. I started listening to the Jacob Wetterling one which was really interesting how much was wrong with the police and the investigation and then they started playing the 911 recordings of the kids and I had to stop. Fatherly instincts came out and started wondering how I would feel as the father if that happened, as he was the one who gave them consent to go to the store... such a tragic story

In Our Time podcast from BBC-R4.
Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss (apparently) random historical/science topics. Invariably excellent.

If you like fraud cases Swindled is a great podcast.

Unfortunately I can’t stand overly intrusive background music, which seems to be the current fad, so I didn’t get very far with the crypto queen podcast.

Thank god it isn't just me...I gave up half way through crypto queen. I couldn't get over the format.

I've been listening to "the smoking tire a few months now", this last week I've caught up on a few episodes that have had me hooked, really insightful chats, i would suggest listening to:

Jacob Agajanian episode - fascinating family history.

Alex Roy and David Morse, cannonball type runs across america (the american express) linked to the film Apex the secret race across america.

Both really worth a listen

It could have been done and dusted in an hour, IMO. They milked it.

In the interests of balance... I loved it. I thought the specially commissioned music was great and the production values excellent. Obviously a neater conclusion would be have nice, but they couldn't help that part.

It was a noticeable departure from the traditional, relatively dry Radio 4 style documentaries, and obviously influenced by the conventions of American podcasting. I'm a long-time fan of This American Life and many of the other podcasts its spawned, I just find that kind of audio more engaging.

I recommended here about a week ago

John Carreyrou's book "Bad Blood" is probably a better account but a different format obviously. I did book, then podcast, which worked well.

Has anyone got any good fiction (i.e. drama) podcast recommendations? I've enjoyed:

Homecoming
Tumanbay
Limetown (series 1 was very good, series 2 a slight letdown)
A Very Fatal Murder (essentially a parody of Serial)
Sandra

I'm currently trying out Motherhacker, which is another Gimlet podcast.

Any more? I love a well crafted audio drama. The radio adaption of Robert Harris' Fatherland (available on Audible, if you're interested) remains one of the best things I've ever listened to.

The Case of Charles Dexter Ward was pretty good, I thought.
