That just looks like very bad luck!

Are you sure it's eligible for prime? Next day delivery is offered by pretty much all courier companies so no massive concern yet.
Indeed

Depending on the size of the seller and/or their relationship with the courier they use they may be able to send out until midnight the day before for day delivery and later for evening deliveries ( not Amazon but i have ordered a phone ( from one of the networks) in the small hours of the morning and had it by 9pm the 'same' day )

i say size as if someone is big enough to have a 'direct feed' they can be delivering to the courier's hub until a couple of hours before the last trucks out are scheduled and it'll still be out for daytime delvery that day assuming there is space on the local delivery vehicle.

Carrier: Amazon Logistics - there's the problem.

Nothing but issues with them here, deliveries which are marked as handed to me, but never arrive, strangely I've never had any prime extensions. DPD on the other hand, so much better.

Around 90% of next day deliveries from Prime have been delivered next day to me, the majority of the 10% were from a year or two ago before they rolled out Amazon Logistics fully (and still used Royal Mail First Class for guaranteed next day!) Every single time a next day delivery was late I wrote a very brief email complaint, every time they added an additional month onto my Prime Membership. I've over 18 months in to Prime and have only paid for a year smile

I've learned not to worry about late night dispatch though, some things have gone out at 2-3am and still reached me in time, and I'm in the sticks in the West Country.

They returned some items I had ordered, no explanation & I was told to re-order them. The price had increased so they offered to match the price, then I coudn't re-order due to maximum order quantity on that item - expected me to wait SEVEN DAYS before re-ordering! They point blank refused to move on this so I ordered elsewhere - an utter & unnecessary PITA.

Got to be a little careful with Amazon prime, the 1 day delivery is measured from despatch of the item, it does not cover the time between ordering and despatch.

This is not clear in their adverts which imply it is one day from ordering which it isn't.
The only time I've ever not had Amazon Prime turn up next day is when it turns up on the same day. smile

Its just changed to "on its way" with tracking details.

I was getting worried it was so late. And i read recently on PH about a chap being scammed on a camera he purchased through Amazon...

Hopefully it arrives tomorrow

Thanks
Nick
He didn't purchase it through Amazon though, he bought it outside of Amazon and got scammed. As long as you buy it through amazons checkout then you have nothing to worry about

When was the exact moment that Amazon Prime became less about paying to have your item delivered the next day and more about having Amazon dispatch your order the same day you place it?

I ordered something on Monday, chose free delivery, it spent until Wednesday 'Waiting to be dispatched', got sent out last night and is due to arrive today.

I'm guessing at some point Amazon's couriers became so efficient at dealing with the quantity of orders from Amazon that they stopped differentiating between what parcel was a priority and what wasn't and just delivered everything as quickly as they can leading to the situation we have today where Amazon now sit on your item for days on end for having the nerve to choose 'free delivery'?

I don't think it has. Increasingly, I can select same day delivery on Amazon Prime at no extra cost.

With regards to your scenario, I would imagine that you're probably right about the efficiency of the couriers, as they have now had plenty of opportunity to get used to the high volumes of internet shopping.

More likely, I would imagine, is either that there's a bottleneck in the Amazon warehouse in the run up to Christmas, so they've prioritised getting Prime orders into the hands of the couriers over yours, or possibly that they get better courier rates if they wait until they've got a complete van full of free deliveries in your area and then dispatch them all in one go?

I Googled this and there was a post on their forum complaining about this exact subject posted a few days with one reply saying Amazon had categorically told them their item wasn't being dispatched yet because they had chosen the free delivery option. I've had this happen earlier in the year so I don't think it's just a Christmas thing. I'm not massively fussed as I don't order that much from Amazon these days but they should just tell it how it is, instead of stating "FREE Delivery" they should outright call it "SLOW dispatch".

I don't mind paying extra for a faster delivery if that's where the money is going, ie, to the courier, but for some reason I refuse to pay them to simply process my order in a timely fashion.
