Hi guys

Anyone know where I can get a CG-Lock in the UK ?

Any particular reason why these aren't widely available ?

Thanks

I remember they used to be, even had stands at car shows, but they seem to have just vanished. Would be interested in knowing also.

Seatbelt locking mechanism for the lap part of your belt. Stops you sliding around on track days.

Demon Tweeks still list them with a 10 day lead time.

Might be worth calling them

Interesting, certainly much easier to fit and use than the CG-Lock (which is a bit fiddly) but I wonder how well it will hold up against the sort of forces it'll get on a track day.

If you do get one post back and let us know how it goes?

So the Shoft arrived.

I'd give it 6/10

I'm sure it will keep your posture in every day driving, but it no way does it "clamp" the seatbelt like I imagine the CG-Lock to do.

So I'm going to hunt around for a CG-Lock, then I'll do a video comparison for everyone to see

Dave.

Same here, nowhere near as tight as the cglock, but at least with the shoft you can reach into the glovebox without injury.

Good for the daily, not so much for toy/track.

Go hunting on fleabay, I'm sure you'll find a CG lock. I took advantage of a PH frenzy offer years back and bought 2 CG locks. Used one for a while then sold them on fleabay as unnecessary clutter. Maybe good on track days but pointless for day to day driving, and it was damaging my seat belt with the heavily knurled locking surface.

So true. The greatest gadget ever. No need for fixed bucket Recaros or Sparcos. I have a CG-Lock for the driver and passenger and they are awesome. They are also great if you are old or disabled and need help staying upright in the seat while driving.

Best £25-40 I ever spent and the most important thing for improving my driving on the circuit because I was no longer holding onto the wheel as I was turning to keep me in my seat.

They are good indeed, probably halfway between normal belt and a harness.

I would still use mine if my car didn't come with harness friendly Recaros CS (no need for fixed back ones btw) and if the CG-Lock hadn't damaged the belt, which I reckon is the key reason for them stopping (fear of litigation ?).

Center Gravity used to do them. Not sure if they still do though.

So you found the CG lock to damage your belts?

So interestingly Dr Graham Cox just called me (inventor/owner of shoft) and he said its not a replacement for the cg Iock for track days because it's not a locking mechanism. He did say Tiff Neddel uses it in his m4 without complaint, however an m4 has really supportive seats where as my SE is relatively bench like.

It does help with posture though can't fault that aspect.

I've mailed him asking why Cg lock is no longer available in the UK I'll keep you posted.

The CG Lock doesn't damage you're belts but as it clamps onto the plastic part of the seat belt buckle it could leave a mark on that part. I've never had an issue in the cars I've used it in (Z4 M Coupe, MINI, MX5 and Civic Type R) mind you.

I must admit, I find it works better on car seats with less bolster. Or maybe it doesn't work better but you feel the effects more if you see what I mean. If I'm honest in my Type R the seats are so supportive I didn't bother using them at Spa last year hence me selling mine.
