RE: McLaren vs Porsche vs Audi: PH Video
Sunday 2nd July 2017
With £150,000 in your account and the want to treat yourself to something a little special, the choices are numerous - do you go for all-wheel drive or rear-wheel-drive, turbocharged or naturally aspirated, V8, V10, or flat-six?
McLaren vs Porsche vs Audi: PH Video
Which is best on British roads?
To find out, Matt took an Audi R8 V10 Plus, Porsche 911 Turbo S and 'our' long-term McLaren 570GT to Wales. All three have over 550hp and are capable of hitting 62mph in under 3.5 seconds, but which just feels the most special? Can the Porsche's enabling 911 Turbo S be enough to see off the howl of the R8's V10 and the rewarding drive of the 570GT?

Nice video and I would agree with the conclusion.
That Porsche does look very special in that colour and everybody knows how great they are, the Audi just leaves me cold though. The engine is the only redeeming feature of the R8 and I think I'd want to spend a little more and have it with the drama of the Huracan body, especially if it's being compared to cars at the 570GT price point.
The only thing wrong with the 570GT is that it isn't a 570s. They are just that little bit sharper than the GT and cheaper too, compare a 570s against a 911 Turbo S and the choice is more down to brand loyalty than any real-world differences IMHO.

One is a SUPERcar the other 2 are german sports cars. Say no more !
McLaren everytime
I don't think it's as simple as chanting 'McLaren everytime'. As the review points out it all depends on what you need from the car.McLaren everytime
There are things that the Porsche can do that the McLaren could never dream of. On the other hand the McLaren provides an experience that the Porsche (or Audi) can't.
So I'm afraid it's not quite as black or white as you make out.
The Turbo is is such a complete car, it's actually mind-blowing.
The Tesla Model S is overhyped, but has a staggering 0-60 time due to its propulsion method, but the Turbo S keeps up and passes this.
Although a largely irrelevant drag race, its just an indicator of the depth of its ability.
The fact that is that Porsche have created a more usable, understated, multi-talented and very good looking 911TTS that can out punch 99.9 % of cars, anytime and any weather.
This is easily for me the best car in the world.

All very correct, the Turbo S is a great 'do everything well' car and if you wanted something to drive every day, in all weathers, quickly, it is the logical choice. In the £150k junior supercar bracket, most won't be daily drivers, most will be a second (or third) car for weekend, and that's when the ability to do everything starts dropping down the list of priorities. The Tesla Model S is overhyped, but has a staggering 0-60 time due to its propulsion method, but the Turbo S keeps up and passes this.

The Turbo S does have staggering 0-60 pace, but don't dismiss the 570, especially over a slightly longer drag-race:-

I'd say out of these 3, if you want a car to drive daily, buy the Porsche. If you want something special for the weekend, the drama of the McLaren takes it for me.

They're all wonderful cars in reality.
McLaren for me, mind.
I'd be spending my money elsewhere...For me the Audi looks dull, and although I LOVE Porsche, this looks 'ordinary' for the money and doesn't howl....and the McLaren whilst REALLY close, for me only has visual drama from the outside... no sound...
I'd probably go Huracan, NSX, GT3, or an Aston DBS..... looks AND noise

Just can't agree that the Audi is exotic or more special than the Porsche - apart from the howl of that lovely V10..
The Porsche is the best looking by miles imo
Would boil down to the McClaren or Porsche - the heart says Porsche the mind says McClaren but not sure you can lose buying either !

At this price point I just couldn't buy an Audi or a Porsche. Rightly or wrongly, in my mind I could buy a nearly new one very very similar to these for under £100K. The McLaren is on another level and is 'different', so I'm buying one - even if just for the experience of the billionaire doors
It's sad that very few new cars have all traits I need from a supercar - noise, handling and looks - and that eco warriors are starting impact the feel/noise through EPS, turbos, stop/start etc
The Porsche and McLaren come close for me, but that v10 engine is a peach. I'm starting to lean towards Lamborghini, especially the older versions with the H-pattern manual - though now rare and expensive.
It also now difficult for manufacturers to produce a car that provides sensory overload on the uk roads at legal speeds which can be classed as a supercar, is bigger/better than before, keeps the eco warriors/emissions happy and meets the latest safety standards.
I see why low volume uk manufactures are doing so well. Ariel has a 18 month waiting list, Ultima also has a long waiting list for factory builds and I'm sure Radical is in a similar position with the RXC

Whilst that may be good news for Ultima, Ariel etc....they aren't doing as well as McLaren. McLaren started up more recently than them, and whilst they may not have as long a waiting list in terms of time (though I know they do have a long waiting list....I'm just not sure how long), they're waiting list in terms of production numbers is far, far higher than those 3 manufacturers you've named all put together. I'm pretty sure that, from a business point of view, I know which position I'd rather be in....The Porsche and McLaren come close for me, but that v10 engine is a peach.
