British Rallycross final 1992: Time For Tea?

25 years ago 6R4s, Astras and RS200s battled it out for Rallycross glory - here's the vid!

Rallycross is just cool, isn't it? World RX is currently enjoying great popularity, with big names, big teams and some great tracks as well. But then it's always been fantastic, really. So time for a little late afternoon celebration.

This video, from the 1992 British Rallycross Final, features everything we love about the sport: super close, fierce racing with outrageously quick cars, skids, spins and drama for half a dozen furious laps. Probably why the formula hasn't changed for so long.

Being such an old vid the quality isn't great, but that doesn't stop it being a brilliant little clip. There are plenty more hiding away on YouTube as well, if you have some spare time... Enjoy the vid!

Watch the video here.

Great vid of a very exciting sport. The late 80' and early 90's were the best era in my memory, but the last years it does seem to make a spectacular comeback. Or has it always been like this, and did I just miss something?

These old vids always make me wonder, was the quality of tv really so bad back then? Or has it just been conserved really bad? Or a combination of the 2?

Bit of both - distinctly lower resolution but the real issue affecting the quality here is the magnetic storage which degraded not only per copy but also when repeatedly played so any footage could have been well-worn prior to it finally being digitally archived. Amazing how quickly we adapt - I am often surprised when I look at video's filmed on my pretty decent DV camera from the early 2000's - really quite fuzzy even from a first generation copy.

So video technology has moved on enormously for the better. Not sure I can say the same about motor sports. Stunning stuff. Didn't care much about the grass then did they?!

I was there.

In fact I went to all of the British Rallycross GP's at Brands.

Used to be such a great event - especially on the oft cold, icy December days that it was held on (just don't mention the fog!)
