Lamborghini Diablo GTR: Pic of the Week

The last scary Lamborghini?

Lamborghini has taken multiple directions over the years before it was acquired by Audi in 1998; once upon a time it was known for making supercars that when pushed were... well, let's just say you had to be on your toes. Under Audi's watchful eye, the raging bull became a little more docile, making cars that are more usable every day. And sales are up...

This Diablo you see before you isn't anything ordinary; the GTR was Lamborghini's first foray into motorsport as a factory team. This GTR is one of 30 made, number 19 to be exact, and was fully restored in 2012/13. Note that gigantic wing for extra downforce, a completely stripped interior - but still with a manual gearbox - and those gorgeous Speedline wheels. The incredibly aggressive bodywork is in carbon, saving further weight. Power? 590hp from the 6.0-litre V12, enough for a 210mph top speed.

And look at it! Parked in an empty warehouse, light pouring in from the window highlighting the purposeful rear end, this Diablo has so much presence. All Diablos do, of course, but this motorsport version ramps it up even further. Incredibly enough this GTR didn't sell at RM Auctions Monterey sale so, you never know, a cheeky bid around the $600,000 estimate could secure it...

Looking at prices for the recent hypercars and track only Vulcans of this world, 600.000$ seems like a bargain to me. Unfortunately only a dream to me as well...

Audi have really killed the brand for me, but I prefer old cars anyhow. A supercar should be trying to kill you at all times, even daily driving it, even at 30mph, it should be wagging its tail into passing pedestrians! :-)

Tesla for me is the ultimate buzz kill for any performance cars. Fast, boring, anything but car fan focussed. I'd rather have diseases than drive an EV.

Agree with everything you said, very rarely am I interested in new cars. The Diablo was a beast, finally climbing in value too.

Driven one of these (SV) in that colour - still the favourite of all the cars I've driven 12 years on, that says a lot
