Anybody used the services of agents based in Myanmar and have any words of wisdom please?

I don't want to go on an organised group tour.

TIA.

but by booking a tour you're going to get an organised tour, group or not?

If you don't want anything organised why dont you just do some googling and figure out where to go yourself? I'll be in Myanmar, cambodia and vietnam in february and have no intention of having anything organised by anyone except myself.

We've decided what we want to see, but felt it would be easier to have a local agent organise the logistics of a fairly tight schedule.
They also seem to be able to get better prices on hotels than we could get individually, so there's little difference in the overall cost.
We're also going up to Northern Rakhine and bearing in mind the political situation in that area, I don't feel confident without a guide and organised transport.

I think Swerni did a tour of some of the other parts of Myanmar - paging Swerni!

We did a small group tour as well, with insider Journeys, it is by far the best way to do it when time is tight and they use local guides as well.
The maximum number is 16 but often a bit less. Flights not included so you can go your own preferred route and airline. They do do side trips to different areas of the country but with the political system a bit unstable you will need to discuss that with them.

We've done small groups in the past and it was mainly fine, but having done some private 'tours' since, I'm now spoiled in terms of not having to spend time experiencing things the tour operators want you to 'experience', and I don't.

The other problem with tours private or otherwise organised by UK companies, is that that because of the political situation they won't go to the one area I really want to see in Rakhine. If I don't post on PH after February you'll all know that I made the wrong decision biggrin.
