Last night I watched Contagion (2011) laugh

Despite the all-star cast, I only give it 5 bugs out of 10 Lemsips, as it really failed to capture the human impact side.

At Mrs Pete’s insistence I watched Young Guns. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

15.99 to rent is this a new thing, that is a crazy price.
It is when I consider that ticket prices for our local cinema are £2.50 in weekdays and £3.50 at weekends..
Where do you live? The 1980s?

Clacton cinema's a similar price (as of 2019/20). They tend to get films a couple of weeks after the main chains though.

Early release price, the DVD is not available to buy yet.

I often buy DVD's as they are cheaper than the rent/streaming version.

With my Cineworld card, I can see as many films as I like as often as I like for around £20 a month (this being the higher rate applied to include the (London) West End cinemas).

Yes, there are several fleapits in the Cineworld portfolio but also some nice environments, like Leicester Square and the one in Wembley. The card also gives discounts on their popcorn and (frankly revolting) hotdogs.

When I spent a lot of time on the road, it also helped me while away evenings in places like Didcot or Witney slightly more pleasantly than watching Freeview in some Travelodge...

I also have an unlimited card.

Cineworld tickets are £8.50 for children.

Superbad, a welcome distraction from the grim real world news.
Just gear from start to finish. Jonah Hill at his best.

No it’s not, it is the alternative to going to the cinema as a a couple or a family

It’s £12 for an adult and £10 for a child in outer London, maybe 30% cheaper elsewhere in UK

(have an unlimited card but think they are giving back money during this period)

That (Superbad) film holds my personal record for quickest switch-off.

I've never in my life seen a film rented for that price and I remember when new releases were sold on video for hundreds of pounds. If people want to pay fair enough but it is a ridiculous price.

It's only temporary while corona is ongoing. Some films are being released for streaming instead of/at the same time they are in the cinema. Hence the high price.

Absolute garbage it is.
Awful acting. Budget must have been tiny.

I usually enjoy what Wahlberg stars in too.

Rented the new The Invisible Man from Sky last night, yes it was expensive but we're saving money by not eating out so it didn't end up being too bad value.
Anyway, and much to my surprise, it's a truly brilliant film! Full of suspense, twists and turns, great acting by the Handmaid's Tale lady. A real 10 out of 10 and there aren't many films I've said that about.
I thought seeing the trailer would have ruined a lot of it, but it's a different film to what the trailer shows.
Behind the spoiler is chat about the trailer vs the film, not actual film spoilers:
In the trailer it makes out the film is about strange things happening with her going insane trying to convince people she's telling the truth and only finding out at the end the Invisible Man does exist (that's in the trailer). In the film she finds out fairly early on that he exists and it's obvious to the viewer too, the rest of the film IS her trying to convince other people.

You do understand these are films newly released at the cinema, normally you rent films 6-12 months after they leave the cinema.

You should be comparing £15.99 to the cost of two or more people going to the cinema not normal rentals
