Hi chaps,

Putting down a new shed next week, 10x10.

It’s going down on grass as I dont want the concrete base. Looking at two bases and would appreciate any opinions or experience:

Gravel Grid (top item) probably provides more stability, won’t likely move. However you’ll need to get the sub-base flat and lay onto a layer of sand.

Item two gets around that problem, as you can (I suspect) level the legs, however I’d suspect it will be more bouncy and less solid.

You can probably get the gravel grids cheaper from a purpose supplier e.g. matsgrids, rather than Wickes. You might also be able to build the shed base cheaper, but more work that.

If the shed already has a floor why not just put it in 6 lengths of 4x4.
Why over complicate a simple job?

It’s going to be going down on grass so 6x4 would just rot out.

Good job they don't use 4x4 treated timber for fence posts.

Yeah, I've never seen a rotten fence post.

I probably over engineered mine, but used railway sleepers. Dug out channels in the lawn for them, covered the whole area with weed proof matting and a base of pea gravel, then laid the sleepers on that.

I'm hoping the shed outlasts me hehe

Just cheapest paving slabs available, and use a spade & long spirit level to flatten the ground underneath?

Why do you need to spend more then £40 on the base of it? Spending £280 on a shed base seems madness.....

What Andehh said.

In the past I've just dug out the top layer of turf, sharp sand to level it out then the cheapest paving slabs you can find (look on gumtree) and shed straight on top.

I think you only really need to start getting all paving expert.com if it's a big ole fkin shed and it'll have some have heavy stuff in it.

I understand the OP doesn't want a concrete base, but I really do think that a solid base is the bast way of doing it, and not resting it on grass.

Heres one I did for a mate recently...

Area measured and dug out...

Crusher run whacked in layers...

A dry mix of sand/cement then went down, and cheap flags laid on top..
