2019 Toyota Supra details leaked

Specs and images posted online said to finally reveal 340hp production car!

Toyota's long awaited Supra has generated a justifiably vast amount of speculation ahead of its much anticipated reveal, a situation only exacerbated by the length of the wait. Now, though, the hype bubble seems to have been burst, with a leak revealing the new car ahead of time - and if it's to be believed, things are looking very good indeed.

According to specs and images taken from Japanese magazine Best Car and posted to SupraMkV.com, the new Supra will make use of a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine, putting out 340hp at 5,500rpm and 332lb ft to propel the car from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.

We'll assume that engine is a straight six with some turbo assistance too - because this is being developed with BMW, don't forget - which makes for a welcome nod back to the Mk4 car and its legendary 2JZ motor. There's no word on top speed but, with a supposed weight of 1,496kg, the new Supra is 14kg lighter than its 177mph predecessor with 20hp more than the UK versions of the old one.

Styling-wise, the production car looks - thankfully - to be closer than expected to the FT-1 concept, but that's not all, the article even including its supposed dimensions. At 4,380mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,290mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2470mm, the 2019 Supra will be 45mm wider and 15mm taller than its forebear, but 140mm shorter with 80mm fewer between the axles.

The leak also blows the covers off the recently teased motorsport-focused concept, set to be unveiled at next month's Geneva show. Toyota has refused to comment on the leak thus far, but we'll bring you any updates as and when we have them.

They have been teasing this design for so long that it just looks dated now in my eyes.

Fuggly. Looks like a rip off of a Dodge viper.

That is spectacularly disappointing. It’s properly ugly.

Those specs surely have to keep the price down to the c£50K bracket. Given the frenetic level of internet activity recently I was expecting a snarling V8 with or without turbos, 0-60 closer to 3.1-3.2 seconds and a silly top speed coming in at around the £80K+ level for a base car.

However, if the published specs are accurate then perhaps this is a £50K entry level car and some more breathed upon versions may appear at a later date, which would be nice smile

I'm a TVR man but don't like the face on the new Griffith, or the price to be honest, but this looks a much better proposition in terms of price and performance for that outlay if my presumption is accurate.

What the juddering fk is that front end?

Has someone reminded them that it's been 8 years since their F1 team folded? F1-styling cues are no longer sensible... This has been in gestation so long they probably didn't want to redesign it.

Interestingly, it looks almost exactly like the concept images and renders. I'll wait until it's fully revealed to make my mind up about it.

I'll be honest, i've not really been following this as much as i thought i would. I love the old Supra, but i'm not sure that i'm that bothered.

It looks like an up to date RX7 but does have an Alfa 4C side profile look.

I can't work out in my head how it manages 3.8 0-62 with 340bhp and almost 1500kg must have an amazing launch control.

I quite like it and interested to see what price it will be.

With that amount of HP, there’s no way it can do 0-62mph in 3.8s...

When I look at how much more power hot hatches, German fast saloons and Ferrari's now have compared to their 90's models, I can't help but think this Supra needs another 150bhp (or a 200kg+ diet).

Some were speculating hybrid assistance, others that this would fringe supercar power. I think the design language is quite removed from Toyota - more akin to Nissan's R35 in some places. Given the last Supra run ended in 2002, this car, it's power train and output, and perhaps even it's TVR Sagaris(esque) styling, appear to me to be about 10 years too late.

Perhaps in line with the way most Supras have gone since, the real prowess of this new one will come about via the multitude of tuners itching to get busy.

Hmm, the styling may be superficially like the concept but unless those pictures are very squashed, the proportions are horrific! Taller and quite a lot shorter than the original doesn't bode well.

Lol.

Looks like something from a 10-yearold who's just read an old copy of his dad's Max Power magazine.

Just awful.

All Japanese sporty cars look a bit like this though with only a few exceptions (MX5 being one).
