Aston Martin Vantage: PH Video

Aston Martin has poured its heart into the new Vantage. It shows.

No bones about it, the Vantage is the most important Aston Martin in a generation. Yes, the DB11 was critical, but we already knew the firm could produce very fine grand tourers. The Vantage is all about reminding us that it can do sports cars, too - and not just of the bruising, old-fashioned sort, but one with the kind of tip-of-the-spear ability to challenge the buying habits of anyone with a high-spec Porsche 911 on the driveway.

Following multiple pre-production drives of the V8-powered coupe, we were confident that Aston had built such a car. And now, for all the reasons that Matt mentions below having experienced it on both road and track, we're convinced. Enjoy.

Excellent. Good video. Nice to see the car in some more reserved colours - looks bloody great. Especially these two shots...

A real nod to the original V8 coupe in that rear end. Jury still out on the front - I think I need to see it in person so decide whether I like that.

Yep, subtle colours suit it much better IMO. I for one think it looks fabulous and I'm glad to see that they have differentiated it in both looks and character from its bigger brother. It may not be as classically beautiful as the previous Vantage but it's moved the game on. It's good to see Aston going from strength to strength even if I can't afford one.

Sorry to be a bit negative, but I thought it was a very average film. Not a patch on some of the things on offer from people like Catchpole at Carfection.

I really like this car. (even more so when the manual comes out) and have always liked the styling, even the front, which has grown on me, especially after seeing it in black and blue. Give it a year and it'l make the old Vantage look old (pretty) but dull/'classic'.

what will be interesting is. The new TVR Griffith, is promising to have the same power output (~500bhp, for a promised 400bhp/tonne power to weight ratio)
But be nearly 300 kilograms lighter, possibly more if the Aston is specced up, and it will £30k cheaper, before the Aston has a single option...

can't wait for 1st magazine head to head test

I was really excited to finally see it in the 'metal' (so to speak) and things looked pretty good until i saw the front. That grille is bloody horrid.

I noticed the paddles are fixed rather than moving with the wheel. I'm still a manual man yet to be converted, but aren't fixed paddles a bit of an issue if you're "making steady progress"?

Couldn't agree more - very Mazda like. Except for the reliability.

Depends on your steering technique. If you do track driving and leave your hands on the wheel, it's good of the paddles rotate with the wheel. If you do drive street, rally or any tighter work inbetween and let go of the wheel, it's good to know the paddles stay put and like a manual, you can let go with one hand to shift...

All a matter of preference. With column mounted paddles down is always on the left up on the right, regardless of the position of the wheel. As above if you really need to take a hand off the wheel mid corner, while not good technique, at least the paddles are in the same position - much like the location of the gearshift in a manual.

Whilst still quite challenging to look at, the front end is better with a number plate in place.

I felt sure the grille would look better in the video than it did in the publicity pics .... but it doesn't! What were they thinking?

I would agree with you! We were really short on time to do this, and I wasn't actually planning to do a vid until I was asked very late in the day. Henry will have been out in the TV/video rotation that allows a bit more time for filming. Promise that next time we do any videos we'll be more prepared and, hopefully, create a better vid.

Cheers!
