Democrats are complaining of limited investigation
Officials said the F.B.I.’s “limited” supplemental background check of Judge Kavanaugh could be finished by Monday morning.

Trump is further degrading the EPA protections

"Trump Administration Prepares a Major Weakening of Mercury Emissions Rules"

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/30/climate/epa-tru...

There was a thread on PH recently about how Mercury is now controlled substance in UK, needing a licence even for small quantities to refurb barometers.

Nonsense, how many times does it need to be said, it's essentially a job interview, not a trial.

A job interview where the applicant has been accused of sexual assault by 4 women (we'll ignore the Rhodes 5th as that looks iffy), has consistantly lied, has possible financial irregularities, or gambling issues, opening themselves upto blackmail, has proven to be not non partisan as a judge should be, has links to large corporate money thats been pushing his nomination for 18 months...

Yet it's the only job for life where these aren't seen as disqualifying factors to one half of the employers...

It's gone too far now for them to even lose face over this. It's Kavanaugh or bust

AH. This might explain a lot. There is one main reason that the GOP desperately needs to get Kavanaugh confirmed as soon as they can: the upcoming SCOTUS case Gamble vs. U.S., No. 17-646.

http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/gamble-...

With Gamble vs. U.S., No. 17-646, the results of this case will have the power to change the lives of trump, trump family and every team trump member etc. Gamble vs. U.S. deals with the “separate sovereigns” exception to the double jeopardy clause and, if overruled, will allow a sitting president to pardon both federal and state-level crimes. A ferederal pardon from trump will mean the people can't be tried at state level, which is where several indictments are currently sitting.

Kavanaugh proved on thursday that he sits firmly with the republicans and trump when he went on his rage filled rant about the clintons being to blame. With Kavanaugh as the fifth partisan Republican judge on the Supreme Court, he will be the deciding vote to overturn the separation sovereignty exception, thus giving Trump and the GOP a get-out-of-jail card.

This might explain the rush to get Kavanaugh appointed.

Christ, drain the swamp indeed laugh

Assuming this is all true and the main reason for it all, then this really needs to be on every news outlet possible to get as many people to see through the BS and understand what its all really about.

Lots of people care, but there isn't much they can do.

Also, what is the alternative? Remove Trump and you get Pence. There is no mechanism for elections until the term is up, IIRC.

And what is the alternative then? Who will be the next candidates?

Unfortunately that does appear to be the case.

Simple answers to complex questions. Good/bad, black/white, left/right, foreigners/not foreigners

Does make you wonder what the GOP know in relation to Trump and their exposure to it? If this is all about Mueller, that suggests they know what he's going to find, and the fact they are so firmly behind Trump (look at the change in tone from Lindsey Graham) and are now so desperately trying to do everything they can to block the investigation suggests a great deal of them know they are going to be in a lot of trouble.

Comments there are suggesting Trump has something on Graham, changed his tune after a private golf game together and started supporting trump? More Russian kompromat?

I hate Kavanaugh and Trump as much as anyone on this thread, but to consider that letter as evidence that Kavanaugh can somehow defend himself against is Kafka-esque.

(What's certainly true is that we don't have a way of evaluating #metoo claims from history. Understanding and sympathy for Ford and others who come forward is one thing, and a court of law is the best place to consider those, but anonymous claims like this are worth nothing.)

You're right to be cautious; in Kavanaugh's place I would have enlisted the help of my Presidentially inclined pal's Russian acquaintances to litter the internet with easily disproved claims to obfuscate the whole affair and slough away the inconvenient Ford in a deluge of cleansing GOP common-sense...

I'm still surprised more wasn't made of the credit card debts. If the hearing is, as a previous poster put it, a job interview, I'd seriously question the candidate's judgement for this particular role.

Then following his performance regarding the assault allegations, I'd question the candidate's temperament for this particular role.

I think he amped up his performance [the operative word] after Trump criticized his TV performance a few days prior to the hearing, calling it 'weak' or some such. But then everyone is 'weak' compared to him I guess.

Will he amp up his judgments if they are criticised?
