My ageing Fiesta Zetec S failed the MOT this week, and needed fortune spending to get it through and a fortune spending on bodywork.

Decided to cut my losses and try to find something as rust free as possible as my fun run around. My last 3 cars have been a Rover Mini, a mk1 mx5 and the Zetec S. All afflicted by the orange horror.

I'd pondered a Swift Sport after reading great reviews and liking the idea of a revvy, pure hot (ish) hatch. My brothers missus needed a run about and I recommended a swift sport. She ignored me and bought a base model, which she loves, but now regrets the lack of umph.

Anyway, I set searched up and a highish mileage one popped up only 2 miles away, at a decent price. Went for a look, more to see what the money would get me, and it got under my skin.

A quick spin out, look over service records, a little haggle and it came home with me.

It's great fun. After around 4k the VVC kicks in and it pulls strongly, sounding decent and I had a whale of a time punting it down the local lanes. The steering and handling is very good, short gearing won't bother me. Rode is fairly stiff and the doors shut with a clang. In a way it reminds me of my Mini.

I think I'm going to enjoy it!

I've not driven the Sport but my wife had the 1.5VVT version with 100Hp and it was my car of choice for local trips. Great fun!

My wife has a 2009 Sport which I think is the same. It had odd tyres front and rear when we got it so wasn't quite right at first, but a new set of Yokohamas all round sorted it out. I had an MX-5 for over a decade and it has a similar sense of simple joy.

It's little things like the way the engine keeps on revving way beyond the point you think it would hit the limiter, and having just enough grip to be fun without getting up to silly speeds. The brakes are absolutely superb (and saved me from a rather big accident when some numpty pulled out right in front of me a few weeks back).

Hope you enjoy it biggrin

Girlfriend has the 1.5. So insanely easy to work on, even I can manage it. It's a fun drive too. Enjoy!!

I currently have it's older brother ignis sport but breaking that in next few weeks unfortunately. Just bought a 07 1.5vvts with clutch gone for £120 so going to throw a clutch in it and punt it on. Seriously considering a swift sport.

I love the latest model and in 12 months time one will probably be my daily driver to replace my fabia vrs and a older one like yours will probably replace the ignis as a weekend thrash/track car

I owned a 57 plate in the same colour. Great car. Extremely reliable though out it's 8 year ownership despite being driven how it was meant to!

Proper little go kart!

I'am guessing it's a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec S with all the rust issues?

Swift Sport is a great upgrade. Like'em.

We have had Agnes for a year and a half now.
Gets used as a daily and as our competition car.
It has taken everything in it's stride.
So far we have done multiple 12 cars & 20/20s, grass autotests, a couple of Targas and a day at Gurston Down hillclimb school.
Is a great little thing.

Agnes? Surely the only name for a Swift is Suzie? Well mine is anyway!

Mine is a 2011, last of the original model. Great fun, but not I sure I agree with the poster above on the brakes.... takes a while to come to a halt.

You’re supposed to use 98+ Ron fuel in them, but I notice no difference at all and just use 95.

Number plate ends with NTT, and I'm sure there is a little bit of Perdita that sings as the revs rise.

No problems with the brakes as we have drilled and grooved disks. Error in our favour as I ordered standard.

Yes, it was a mk5 zetec S.

Making lots of excuses to get out for a blast, it's properly grin inducing. Not the fastest thing I've driven, but it just feels a bit special.

Gave it a wax and found its little scratches and dinks. Not perfect but overall pretty pleased with it.

Only issue I had yesterday was when accelerating hard, there was a burning type smell. It has only been used for short runs, and the smell seems to have lessened today.

I'll keep an eye (nose) on that.

PH smiley added. Still loving it, it's a great little car.

Only issue is trying to strap my daughter in the back is the seatbelt keeps locking and I have to recoil it fully. May have to see if I can source replacements.

Nice car.

The seat belt thing may be by design. Something to do with fitting child seats. I remember having great fun in toyota 7 seaters. Feed the person in fronts (from the third row) seatbelt all the way out, then it ratchets back in all the way trapping them biglaugh

Great example, looks nice and clean. Enjoy it!

I have '12 SSS (in white) and I love driving it. Don't do nearly as many miles as I used to but still enjoy every journey. I think I'll run it into the ground, not had any issues with it in over 40k miles...I hope you have the same luck!

Cheers, yes it's not too bad. Some minor scratches and a bit of a crunch under the near side foglight surround.

Only paid £1800 for it , so i'm chuffed so far.
