Hyundai i30 N Time Attack: Time for Coffee?
Standard i30 N too tame for your tastes? Street FX in Australia may have a solution...
Few would deny that the Hyundai i30 N hit the ground running when it arrived on roads in January, but it's never felt like a package that's pushing particularly close to its limits. Drive an i30 N quickly and you'll notice the engine is strong but not ballistic, while the chassis feels like it's got reserves of untapped potential. It's great in standard trim, of course it is, but it's also an exciting base for those in the business of tuning.
So far, however, the upgrade catalogue for the i30 N has largely been limited to the ECU remap offered by Racechip and the N division's own extensive list of options that may or may not happen, illustrated on its recent i30 N 'N option' concept. This slim parts supply meant that when Australia's Street FX Motorsport came to building a competition version of the i30 N, the project required several components not yet fitted to one. The firm has had to use custom coilovers to enable new geometry, different brake pads and even adopt their own settings for a piggyback ECU to provide a substantial boost in engine output.
