Jaguar XE Project 8 'Touring Specification'

Standard Project 8 a little ostentatious? Try it with a smaller spoiler, four seats and no stickers...

The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is a confusing thing; despite the track-focused auspices, the lap records, the outrageous aero devices and the two-seat option, it's actually a rather lovely road car as well. Perhaps more so than on circuit. That same flow, cohesion and communication that characterises all Jaguars is there, only heightened to a more thrilling degree. And with 600hp.

To capitalise on those traits, and presumably to sell the last few, Jaguar SVO has created the Project 8 Touring. Described by its maker as "the ultimate Q car", the Touring Specification Project 8 does without the standard car's rear wing - replaced by a more subtle boot spoiler - removes the Jaguar stickers and comes only in four-seat layout. Like the other 285 Project 8s, the Tourings will be left-hand drive only.

Otherwise this car is as you were for the Project 8 - same 600hp supercharged V8 and 3.7-second 0-62mph time, although the Touring is limited to 186mph where the regular car does 200.

The 15 Project 8 Tourings will be offered only in British Racing Green (which will surely look fantastic), Valencia Orange, Velocity Blue (as seen here) or Corris Grey Satin. Should buyers really want the stickers added back on, they are an option. But the ultimate Q car can't have stickers, can it? We'll take one just like this, thanks very much. Jaguar dealers are awaiting your interest now...

Trying to flog it because no one is buying it?

How did they think selling a LHD only car would work when the UK must be their largest market, or at least their most loyal one for their high performance versions of their cars?

Like it but cant understand why they do the normal models, a warm ish 300 bhp one then this bonkers 600 bhp version ?next hottest

Its like going for a Curry and they do a Korma, a Rogan Josh and then the next hottest is a Phaal with extra Carolina Reaper chillies, washed down with an ice cold pint of Vodka.

This is pretty much as far away from a Q car as you can get.

Love it, though.

That is fabulous.

Definitely a Q car too, I doubt many people will know what it is.

Did I miss the price?

Lots. The normal project 8 was about £150k IIRC.

biggrin When BMW made the M4 GTS, they bumped the price to a similar level but you only got 68bhp more, not 300, or twice as much. I agree it'd be sensible to have a middle ground but is anyone buying them? I've not seen many C43 AMGs about for example. Cars like the XE or 3 series or A4 seem polarised into fleet tools where running costs / BIK etc. are king, or ever more powerful beasts for those with money to spare and no concern for running costs. The appetite for a little more performance for a little more cost seems to have gone, it's all or nothing.

Love it.

Makes more sense in this guise but I guess the original car was needed to show how mental the package was.

Please buy it wealthy PHers.

As I understand it, the v6 XE-S didn't sell hugely well, to the point where it wasn't economic to put it through the new emissions test rigmarole, so the plug was pulled.

There are occasional mutterings of either an Ingenium straight-6 or some kind of amusing hybrid, but who knows biggrin

Me, I'm happy enough with my slow little 300 Portfolio - anything Project 8 fast would just get me into more trouble, quicker!

If I could sell the house to fund it, though idea

Having been fortunate to have experienced the P8 first hand on a 2 mile runway (managed 194mph,) it is an epic beast and would certainly be part of my stable, but I”d have to give up my XKR. Sorry, can’t do it. Thank you for making all the same Jaguar. clap

I really love the idea of this car, particularly in that shade of blue.

The dealbreaker for me is LHD.
The other things I don't like are the absence of a manual gearbox, the presence of privacy glass, and the eye-watering price.

But well done, Jaguar. Keep this mindset and ideally democratise it a bit more.

I have to admit, I was put off by LHD only initially. I didn’t pull the trigger on a P1 for the same reason, despite being offered a slot.

I stayed open minded this time and having had the car for 3 months, I can honestly say it’s no big deal. Would I have chosen a LHD; no. Does it impair my enjoyment, not a bit!

Re: manual gearbox, I love 3 pedals as much as the next bloke but the truth is, that car with that power and that chassis; it would be beyond my abilities to drive it in anger at 8 or 9 10ths with a manual gearbox.

A shame “Touring” doesn’t also mean estate in this instance.
