David Brown Automotive Mini 'Day Tripper'

Do you like to be beside the seaside? The latest David Brown Mini could be just the ticket

Remember the David Brown Mini 'Remastered'? In much the same vein as Singer's 'reimagined' Porsches, it takes an original car and thoroughly renovates it, bringing it up to a condition which its progenitors could only have dreamt of it one day reaching. That not only means a sumptuously redesigned interior, where swathes of leather and tastefully integrated modcons abound, but also 95hp and 87lb ft from its original 1,330cc engine. Oh, and a £100,000 price tag.

Now the company - which also builds the Aston Martin DB5-inspired Speedback GT - has a new version to entice those wealthy enough to afford it. The same basic car as before, it comes equipped with a Webasto electric panoramic sunroof, beneath which can be found an interior clad in beach-themed marine-grade waterproof PU leather and Kvadrat premium fabric.

This is mirrored by a two-tone exterior theme, in this case 'Day Tripper White' and 'Electron Blue' and again features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It sounds like a thoroughly lovely way to traverse the city on a summer's day, or pop down to the coast from your country home. Then again, for the price of a barely-used V12 Vantage S, it ought to be!

One hundred thousand of your English pounds and "PU Leather"?

Really?

Putting aside the "imaginative" price tag, it's a nice looking little thing

Would be a lovely little thing to own but that price tag! Suppose its a drop in the ocean for most of those wealthy enough to even consider it.

"She's a big teaser
She took me half way there"

Sounds like they've got the name just about right for an overpriced piece of fluff.

Don't have a Singer options list to hand but I'm pretty sure chintzy Halfords rear lights and E90 shark fins aren't on it.

There's those rear lights again, this time on a re-bodied XKR. That arse. Those wheels. My poor eyes.

I approve.

Paint looks good.

It will be off the shelf, dreadful to use and date quickly, leave it out, use your phone if you need to. This is an analogue car. An Eagle E-Type doesn't have Apple CarPlay. A JIA Interceptor R doesn't have Android Auto.

It won't be. It's a classic Mini. It will be noisy, slow, cramped, uncomfortable and unsafe just like a Mini should be. It'll also be bags of fun. You can still buy 90% of the fun for 15% of the price.

If you really, really must drop £100k on a classic Mini go and have a chat with the boys at Retro Power

You would have to be tripping to pay that. David Brown deserves an almighty kick in the cock.

It's a very confused "design".

Moto-lita wooden wheel and touchscreen?

Stupid sharkfin?

Mostly classic/retro outside, modern totally meh seats and door trim inside?

The trim detail around the eyeball vents, visible on the RHS... well, it's not really there, is it.

Lots of options to spend 100k on. A 5k Mini is not one of them.

Looks like they've remastered the steering wheel to the wrong side, too.

Could they not find a right-hooker?

Needs to be put out of business for crimes against automotive decency.
