Honda Mean Mower smashes world speed record

Tricky second lawnmower album does 150mph and 0-100mph in 6.29 seconds. Also cuts grass

Honda has set an all-new Guinness World Record with its Mean Mower V2 by setting a 0-100mph time of 6.29 seconds. Driven by W Series and Fast and Furious Live stunt driver Jess Hawkins, the working lawnmower proved itself quicker to a ton than the outgoing Porsche 911 Turbo S. Hawkins then kept her foot in to reach a top speed of 150.99mph, smashing Mean Mower V1’s 116.87mph record for good measure.

Guinness World Record rules dictate that the Mean Mower must remain capable of cutting grass and sort of look like a mower, although underneath, the V2 is a purebred drag racing machine. It uses the 200hp 999cc engine from the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP motorcycle and a chassis setup developed in conjunction with Honda-backed BTCC outfit Team Dynamics, with a Chiron-beating power-to-weight ratio of 1429hp/tonne.

That makes the machine’s record all but inevitable then - but let’s not forget all that ferocity is wrapped in the not-particularly-protective bodywork of an HF 2622 grass cutter and Hawkins sits in a kart seat without belts – all the way up to that bonkers top speed. Rather her than us…

I think if anything did go wrong, I'd rather be thrown out and take my chances than be strapped in.

Good effort! (In a gloriously pointless way).

Because that's a whole lot different to the motorbike from which the engine came from?

I missed out on a substantial cash prize in a pub quiz about these.

Answer had to be exact. Was just after the previous record had been set.

All other teams were around 40-60mph figures.

I went in with 113 (my fellow team members thought I was nuts)

Missed by 3 mph

Meanwhile, Honda continue to pop out Jazzes for the over-60's population.

Come on Honda, you used to be cool. Make another S2000 or at least sell us the S660 please.

Great stuff. If they put it on sale at (say) £15k, I wonder how many they would sell? Lots hopefully!

I think £15k is a bit optimistic. The bike they borrowed the engine from is £20k.

They're going to need a new Nürburgring lap record category.

the really important question is:

can it do 0-100mph in 6.289 seconds WHILE mowing the lawn?

Wow!!!

My mower has a 700 and something cc American V twin engine that cranks out a mighty 22 horsepower and quite frankly it scares the life out of me if it gets to 10 klmh.
