I won't spoiler it but man I was disappointed. 6.5/10 for me. Shame, Pixar and Disney keep cocking these up.

Looked amazing, new characters were awful, lack of depth and actually quite boring. It's got great rotten tomatoes reviews so could just be me.

Not as bad as Finding Dory though

That's a shame
IMDB has it at 9.1 / 10
Rotten Tomatoes is 95%

I didn't think I was going to bother going to see it (Toy Story 3 was my 40th birthday when I was in the U.S in 2010 with my family laugh), and then I saw the lovely Hollywood guy that is Tom Hanks on Graham Norton on Friday night, and I thought, "why not?".
It's out locally on 26th

I thought it was much better than Toy Story 3, which I hadn't seen so watched it the night before.

I'd give it 4 out of 5 Sporks

Watched it on Sunday at the Cinema, definitely worth the money.
Not as good as the first one but much better than number 3

I caught part of a review of it on Radio 4.

Apparently the main problem is that it is too white. And too "heteronormative". And ableist. And sexist.

Peston was equally bemused.

I thought it was wonderful, and better than 3.

Forky is possibly my favourite animated character for a decade, so much emotion and depth to what is literally a bit of plastic.

Took my kids (6 and 3) to see it on Saturday, I agree with you OP, a huge opportunity missed. It wasn't very poor, but it wasn't great either, distinctly average at best.

The overall storyline tries to deals with things such as rejection and exclusion and finding your place in the world, but at the same time I feel those messages need to be subliminal/secondary, because it is after-all a children's movie, which is what 1/2/3 did well. In 4 however, I feel the excitement and drama that keeps kids hooked was absent without leave, very little actually happened, hardly any chase scenes or anything with fast moving pace. My 3 year old lost interest after 30mins (she loves the other Toy Story films), and my 6 year old hasn't spoken about it since, unlike other films he's watched and raves about 12 months later (Cars, Minions, Bolt etc). Neither of them really got/understood the "Sporky" character.

From my point of view, I think there was a distinct lack of adult geared humour/sarcasm/comment that you find in children films specially for adults to also enjoy.

If it hadn't been for the fact I took them to one of those "luxe" cinemas which gives them their own special reclining chairs etc, I have a sneaking suspicion I would have been leaving early with them.

It's a 5/10 from me.

I loved 3, thought it was easily the best, but I have no desire to watch this, I felt the arcs were all finished in 3. Watched my fave reviewers (Grace and Kermode) and they have conflicting views. There is too much competition I think for me to justify a trip for this...though the animation does look lovely.

What makes me a bit wary is Pixar don't have a high strike rate these days but reviewers still rave about them like they are the second coming.

Finding Dory was poor and I thought Incredibles 2 was average when the baby wasn't on the screen.

3 seemed to wrap up the trilogy and felt like the final of the series.

I guess they’ll make a lot with this film based on the Toy Story name, label those who dare to criticise it, and wheel out the voice actors to show how upset they are. Follow on film flopping (although actually decent) will be blamed on the negative “trolls” on social media rather than Toy Story 4 being a disappointment. The series will then close for a while due to “Pixar fatigue”.

Yes I’m still bitter about The Last Jedi and how Solo suffered as a result hehe

Agreeing whole heartedly about Toy Story 3. That for me finished it all. Andy's gone, the toys go on to pastures new. Not at any point in the time I've known about TS4 have I wanted to go and watch it.

So what happens? I'm being dragged to the cinema by the wife and the sister in law to watch it. I have very low expectations, so maybe it will be good.

I didn't really enjoy it. As the OP said actually quite boring.

Was made worse as we watched it in 4DX which was just getting on my tits by the end. My kids really enjoyed it though and that's the main thing.

I think that correlates with when Disney bought them, and the oush for sequels ramped up. Having said that, I really enjoyed the Incredibles 2. biggrin

IMDB reviews have to be taken with a pinch of salt so soon after a release like this as it's often the hardcore that will score it 9,10 no matter how bad it actually is.

Having said that I'll pop along in a couple weeks when the cinema's quietened down, and judge for myself

Not particularly

A number of Pixar and Disney movies are among the greatest films ever made.

Glad it wasn't just me.

They should have left it well alone after TS3. End of the trilogy.

This had loads of 'it's alright to be different' messages, but virtually no humour of any kind, let alone the subtle stuff for adults.

Usual lost toy rescue theme. Flogging a dead horse.

No tension, no drama, no aliens, no Slinky, no Ham, no RC, no Potato Heads, well nothing to speak of,

4/10 from me.

Yes, and other animation houses too.

But this is Toy Story...!
