Recently came across these pics I took at Castle Combe back in the late ‘80s. I think the De Tomaso Pantera Club may have been meeting, but certainly a great turn out of cars.

Recognise any cars or faces in the crowd?

I recognise the Dino I thought, based on a Lotus but shows as a triumph on the MOT checker!

That's funny. Not sure I even knew there were replicas back then so didn't occur to me it might be.
Hope they're not ALL fakes...

As I scrolled down the photos I was just thinking "Oh well, at least we won't have to figure out if any of them are replicas at that time".

What's the red thing above the Testarossa and in front of the TR6? Is it a Fiat Dino Spyder?

|

Oh,and look at the back of the queue. A white mid engined Renault 5 Turbo. Phase 1 I think?

Good question. Initially I thought it was, as the windscreen and front haunch is certainly reminiscent. However, looking again, the rear end doesn’t curve down enough, the wing mirror is black and too long, and the wheels don’t look right.

Hmmm....

I'll stick my neck out and suggest a Camaro from around 1969.

I'd say it was a Dino. I think the wheels do look right and the rear appearance is affected by a reflection or patch of light. No idea about the mirror. Be careful the pedants will admonish you for calling it a wing mirror when it is actually on the door.

I was just about to post this when I realised spell checker had changed to dinosaur.

By the way, real or fake or replica the best looking car there is the GT40.

Car is based on a Lotus Europa chassis, the body moulds were taken off of a genuine Dino. The wheels are period Revolutions. If you see it around speak to the owner/ builder he is lovely chap not a bullsh**er and is always happy to talk cars.

The front wing is Dino for sure!

Door mirror isn't right but it may itself be a replica with a modern part.

In light of this, I'll wind my neck back to its parked position.

Curious. Leave it with me and I’ll see if I’ve got any more photos from the day that show it more clearly.

Thanks Interloper, not at all - great to see your pics. Takes me right back! Hard to describe to younger folks today (now I sound old, I know) quite what an impact these cars had back then. I’d spent my life seeing Fords, Leylands and Vauxhall’s, and then... these! Wow.

Wow - is that a DeTomaso Longchamp next to the white XR3 convertible? I never knew they did a spyder - it looks like it has a fabric roof.
