Wiesmann 'Project Gecko' due in 2020

Still want that TVR?

It seemed that progress had slowed on Wiesmann's return, given the confirmation of its return was nearly two years ago now, so it's heartening to see that steps are being made towards a resumption of production.

'Project Gecko' is the working title for this latest model; it's clear even from these images, however, that the new Wiesmann sports car will be very much in the mould of old Wiesmann sports cars. The grille is familiar, as are the shape of the headlights, the steeply raked rear end with the pod taillights and, really, the entire silhouette. Still, the distinctive aesthetic was a large part of the Wiesmann appeal before - much like a Morgan, in fact - so it's understandable that the Gecko hasn't been meddled with too much.

Beyond that, details are scarce; we knew it would use the BMW M twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 back in 2017, which should make for ferocious performance given its power potential. Wiesmann is also promising a more usable and comfortable sports car this time around, reflecting changing legislation and buyer taste.

Those interested in the Project Gecko can add their names to a waiting list today, although prices haven't been confirmed as yet. Certainly, the Gecko is a project that will be followed with some intrigue, given the fond following Wiesmann has over here - and the possibility of a 600hp return.

Excited. I have seen on Wiesmann in person and it looked amazing. I have no idea how good or bad the car actually is but it had a lot of presence and sounded great.

Still want that TVR? What TVR?

And even if it ever gets made, the Weismann will be at a far higher price point.

Those wings look very high.

Does it have 37" wheels?!

Always thought the early Wiesmann models were a thing of beauty with quite a few classic references - most notable for me anyway was an old Austin Healey 3000.

The latter ones seemed to be more extreme and had lost their appeal. I hope this does well.

Coincidentally I saw my first Wiesmann in the flesh today. Quite a handsome thing

Quite. It has gone very quiet on that front.

Something like this would be my choice, if I could afford it! Lovely.

They're actually tiny-the cars I mean. One used to do summer weekends at the 'ring a few years ago and it was an exquisite little thing, very tiny.

Think of it a Z4 made to be an Austin Healey 3000 with ///M power.

Every Wiesmann I've seen in the metal/fibre glass was so badly finished it made Tesla's look like Porsches and McLarens like Bugattis. They're interesting from a distance, but once up close they're really just expensive German kit cars. We'll see if this is better, if made at all.

My Lotus dealer is also doing the Wiesmann gig for Belgium, beautiful cars but a bit quirky and quality not always consistent. Then again, the amount of time I have spent sniffing around one as they work on the Lotus is a testament to Lotus not being so consistent either.

If I could, I would though. In a heartbeat.

Great, thanks for that smile Now I REALLY want one. One of the few cars I'd happily trade my Griff in for and be confident I'd not lose any of the (good!) TVR "experience"!

I always thought the old Wiesmann's styling was a pastiche of British sportscars. Not bad looking.
The interiors, however looked very amateur in styling. Very kit-car to me. Horrible Halfords style gauges popping out of the dashboards as if on a fibreglass moulding that was blended into an ordinary dash with filler and then covered in vinyl (ok leather, but you get the picture).
i couldn't argue with the old performance, though.

Good luck to them. always nice to have another player.

These cars really look the part and BMW should have bought it 10 years ago... Interior is a bit too much for me but then, that's all to the owner.

love wiesmann cars, also good enough quality, seen lots of them.

saw this one on sale, a MF3 roadster, looks great, also love that colour interior, maybe a bit to much, but very nice.
I also think the MF3 is the finest/lightest Wiesmann (production model) good drivers feeling, sporty.

I like the MF4 GT more by looks and coupe, sadly the driving in such is a bit more 'bulky' ? although still a light car and great V8, the console is a bit wide and a few other things, but I guess I could life with such :-) and or adjust a few things to my liking.

Looks like the old school look is no more, the front will be full of air intakes.
