Lister I-Pace!

From supercharged V8s to electric SUVs in one fell swoop, Lister turns its hand to Jaguar's groundbreaking I-Pace

At PistonHeads we've become more familiar than ever with Lister's products in recent weeks: be they based on new designs or old ones, the look, sound and speed have ensured memorable experiences. With its new project, though, Lister is taking a very different tangent: the electric car.

The SUV-E is Lister's take on the Jaguar I-Pace, following its F-Type and F-Pace enhancements. Currently pitched as "an opportunity for those interested in electric power to own a truly unique and bespoke electric vehicle", the SUV-E will be produced "pending interest and pre-orders" - it's very early days for the idea, basically.

To that end, details are pretty vague. The carbon fibre you can see here for bumpers, splitters and so on - as well as carbon ceramic brakes, in fact - is used liberally enough to take 100kg from the kerbweight, taking total mass nearer two tonnes. The ride height is lower on adjustable suspension and Lister will also rework software to liberate more power and torque; there aren't specific figures as yet, though it's believed the SUV-E will be capable of a four-second sprint to 62mph. (The standard car EV400 I-Pace does it in 4.5 seconds.)

Like the LFT-666 F-Type and LFP F-Pace, this new Lister will be distinguishable from its more humble Jaguar brethren through an extensive range of material and trim upgrades. The wheels are a new design (and made of titanium), the SUV-E interior will be retrimmed in Nappa leather (with 60 choices for the colour, and 200 for the stitching) and the exterior paint can be "in any colour of your choice". Despite all that, it's easy to imagine many plumping for the traditional Lister BRG with yellow seen in these renderings - this surely has to be the best-looking I-Pace yet, and that includes the race car.

While not yet confirmed, Lister has suggested that the SUV-E will cost in the region of £125,000, or £50,000 more than the current EV400 HSE flagship. Given many I-Paces will leave with a chunk of options, though, and carbon fibre is very expensive, perhaps that's not a fair comparison. Whatever the final outcome, Lister's work is certainly an intriguing take on the Jaguar EV. More details to follow as they're available...

And you wouldn't buy a Model 3 Performance or a Taycan because?

One of the best looking EVs so far and Jaguar would do well to soon launch a meaner looking I-Pace themselves. Hats off to Lister though this and their F-Type variant would be quite the two car garage.

Here's something I really don't get with EVs: if the primary goal is to provide continued mobility for humans while looking after the planet (ie not killing the wildlife... or us), then why do several cows have to donate their skin to provide our upholstery? Seems a bit contradictory, and I'm not even a vegan.

The SUV-E looks great, but it feels like there are too many "ifs" for it to become a reality. Hope I'm wrong.

Well I wouldn’t want the model 3 for the same reason I wouldn’t want really good sex with Susan Boyle.

As for the taycan, I haven’t see one in the flesh yet.

Tesla’s use vegan leather, from the account of Uber drivers it’s the most durable finish and better then leather

I guess leather is a by product of consuming beef, but I agree that there should be alternatives, a lot of leather isnt actually leather, unless like in my car BMW have access to some really uniform, unrealistic cattle for their cheaper end seats.

The Ipace looks ace in that green, with the contrasting Orangey Yellow reminding me of a Rover BRM...

Given that the motors in the iPace are entirely thermally limited (rather than electro-mechanically limited) , i wait with baited breath to see what numbers they claim for the tune up..

(not to mention the small issue with setting fire to the HV DC wiring harness under continuous high currents.......... ;-)

Could they really save 100Kg ? Seems like quite a lot by just using a bit of carbon fibre trim and brakes ?

highly questionable i think! 100 kg is a lot to save, and normally the preserve of "down spec'ing" of racey models, ie A/C delete etc......

Agreed, several I-Paces around my way now but all in pretty insipid colours.

JLR have the ‘premium textile’ interior option - I have it in my velar and it’s really nice, wasn’t sure at first but now I’m sold on it 👍

Look kind of nice but 50 grand to save 100kg? Just leave passengers at home if you want a burn up, and save the money.

Lovely colour suits car credentials, weight saving is great but I'm sure it could be done far cheaper half of new cars weigh too much I'm sure more effort in thinner plastics etc would add up and help achieve better efficiency.

Someone seems to have beaten Lotus to tarting up an SUV and even used their colours.

I just don’t get the I-Pace at all.
It’s taller than a ‘car’ but lower than an SUV.

So it gets the awkward looks without the benefits.
