Ranger Raptor police car!

South Wales Police get a treat ahead of the rest of the nation, as battenburg'd Raptor makes it to the service

Ford's release around this Ranger Raptor police car is refreshingly brief - just the 138 words, including mention of the very cool Focus ST Estate that's also coming - but comes with 20 lovely photos. Point surely being, therefore, that ogling the images will get the message across just fine. It's hard to disagree...

Basically, it's the Ford Ranger Raptor we know and have come to admire, made fit for police service; even with the standard - and slightly breathless - powertrain left alone, Ford says the truck "has more than enough to keep up with crims making a getaway across gravel, mud and sand." Hence South Wales being among the first to put it to the test, given how rural the area is - what better vehicle to police it than a go-anywhere truck?

Both the Ranger and the Focus (isn't it nice to see the tradition of fast Ford estates in the forces continue?) have been built by Ford's Special Vehicle Preparation team in Essex. Trials for the Focus are already underway, with the Raptor set to follow soon. We can't wait to see them strutting their stuff on the road - as long as they're after someone else, that is...

So this is basically a Ford press release, saying that they’ve put lights and sirens on their slowest car and desparately hope a police force somewhere will buy some?

sussex use L200s

I'd imagine there's quite a big market for 4x4 off roaders in rural areas. We used to have a few LBW Defenders on the Sussex fleet

Yep
Pretty much sums it up.

As about as newsworthy as me putting a police livery on my Fords in Forza Horizon

Do Ford offer an enclosed pick-up area for the Ranger ? (Like a removable hard top).

If not, it's pretty useless as a police vehicle.

We had some of the older ones with the covers over the back, pretty useless to be honest. A 4x4 Sprinter would be a better bet .

I'm sure at least a couple of those caused 'waste of taxpayers money' rants on these pages, despite being free of charge demonstrators used at shows.

Dear god this place is full of miserable sods...

It's a bit of fun, light-hearted marketing. Try cheering up a bit, it might do you good.

Yes there are a couple of hard top options available. I have seen one on a Raptor, it looked a bit weird!

Heck, why does everyone commenting have to be so joyless? PH threads are consistently like a pack of Eeyore's moaning and droning. Come back to the light, these vehicles look cool and it's a bit different which is good enough for me. Compared to the asthmatic Astra diesels etc. these are both way cooler.

Welcome to Great Britain, where modern politicians and the media have robbed our souls with false promises and made us heartless and cynical......

Things like this work in rural areas. There's quite a few assorted 4x4s on the Cambridgeshire force to cope with the fens

Perhaps people need to turn their televisions and smartphones off and venture outside a bit more, there is plenty to still be happy about!
