911 GT3 Cup & GT4 Clubsport | Pic of the Week

Two Porsche racing greats + one iconic circuit = another great wallpaper

You might have seen Matt’s recent story on his time behind the wheel of Porsche’s new GT4 Clubsport. “It looks great, it sounds great, it drives quite superbly” was his conclusion - an unsurprising result given the manufacturer’s recent hot streak when it comes to finely balanced driving machines.

Should around £150,000 for the car - plus nearly £20,000 in registration and parts costs - not prove to be prohibitive to entry, competitors can look forward to 12 rounds of racing in support of the British GT and BTCC series, as well as technical support from Manthey Racing. All of which may sound like a pretty series proposition, yet the Sprint Challenge is about as accessible as it gets experience-wise, with only a National B licence required to take part. Add that to the GT4’s “dynamic transparency, approachability and user friendliness” and you have the perfect stepping stone to the upper echelons of Porsche motorsport.

This is represented by the GT3 Cup, a 911-based racer which puts out 485hp at 7,500rpm and 354lb ft at 6,500rpm. It’s properly proper, basically. And also comes with a bloody enormous wing. Appropriate, then, that our Pic of the Week should depict both it and the GT4 in front of Silverstone’s own famous wing, the two cars flying in formation across the finish line. The only thing left to ponder, as you gaze upon your new desktop background on this gloomy afternoon, is which would you rather have a go in, and where? Let us know in the comments below.
