Ive been looking round the various Reg. Plate dealers and auctions etc. For a attractive number plate containing 911 numbers. All commanding a high premium with possibly the exception of Northern Irish plates but then you have Z or I in the letters. Are they worth buying or is it worth paying the extra for the plates issued here , which will possibly hold or increase their value more.

I don't think it's a good look. Save your money.
But each to their own smile

I think a nice plate adds to the look of an already good looking car.

But I’m obviously slightly biased. :-)

Unless you’re spending many thousands a numberplate isn’t going to appreciate.

If you want one, just buy something you like, that means something to you.

Car specific plates are especially try hard - more so 10 years down the line when someone has their M3 or V8 plate with their initials on a diesel A3.

They are sometimes called 'personal' plates, because they are personal to the owner, as opposed to something random issued by DVLA.

However, like most things, some are tasteful and can look good (but usually expensive), and some look naff and tacky, especially if the letters or numbers have been modified, (usually the cheaper ones).

As said above, whilst the best ones are expensive, they have proved a good investment. The cheaper ones are just a bit of fun.

I went slightly mad and bought a plate on a speculative basis last week - MR51PUT (MRS 1 PUT for the golfers out there). Anyone got any thoughts about the best place to try and sell it? E bay and Collecting Cars were my first thoughts, but any other ideas gratefully received.

Thanks!

Thanks. I am aware of good plates & crap plates. I have dealt with plates on & off for years. I own probably 5. Three of which are for sale with agencies. My question was really aimed at N.I. Plates.

XXX 911 or 911 XXX maybe, but anything else looks to me like trying too hard or just plain cheesy.

Just my two penn'orth.

You’re absolutely right by the way. I already have plates.. it’s a 911 plate in particular I want. You can get a N.I. Plate for £1K if you’re quick of the Mark when the DVLA auctions them off but they are a bit sh!tty with Z’s & I’s etc. I have been bidding on 5 911 plates in the auction today but the prices were high. I’ve seen one at a dealers that is more reasonably priced. I’m just concerned nobody wants the N.I. Plates if you wanted to sell in the future.. unlike the plates issued here. The online auctions are fetching higher prices than the normal auctions that have attended on many occasion. PS. ... nice 996 GT2 Unusual colour. 18 years young & stunning. yes

I'm not sure what's wrong with the letter 'I' in a plate? Even 'Z' doesn't bother me. Then again I'm from NI and used to it. We did have *IG and *IL as plates here, so BIG 911 and DIG 911 were available and loads of companies bought OIL *****.

MBZ 911 would make sense if your nom de plume is reflective of your real name.

I think any plate you have to alter or explain is a bit naff.

I quite agree with the altering of a plate. If you have to alter a plate for it to make any sense, then I would not buy it. The point is, the Irish plates seem a lot less desirable over here. It can only be because of the Z & I if you were to compare prices. The Irish 911 plates come up for sale with DVLA for bout £1000. But they soon go. I will be quicker off the Mark next time! I tried to buy LIL 911 from regtransfers (£3K) but they rung me back & said the owner had decided not to sell! FFS. grumpy

One of my school mates owns this combo, I'm fairly sure he paid under £1000 for it.

A fella I know owns

911 DES on his 997 Turbo

I suspect Design 911 would love that. He didn’t pay that much a long time ago.

Yes, I Would imagine less than £1000. I sold PO55 RCH earlier this year for £800. I am specifically wanting either 911 - - - or - - - 911. I fully understand the value of plates & what are decent & what are meaningless to nobody but the owner. rolleyes

I have a V8 plate on my M3, so I think I can claim a full house here?
My name rather than my initials though.
Been on the M3 since 2009, not expected to be on either a diesel or an A3 anytime soon wink

To the OP - buy the plate if you like it and can justify the money.

I still regret not buying 911 HUH when I saw it advertised a couple of years ago for £1,500. I didn't have a 911 at the time but it would have been a fair investment. I have 990 FPP if Porsche ever decides to go that way with their model numbers.
